So has anyone considered putting a Norinco Commander length slide onto the NP-30 Frame? That way you could have a double stacked .45acp commander fairly cheaply.

I asked a similar question. Can you use a full size frame with a Commander slide assembly? I can't tell if the dust cover is the same length.
One guy said there were differences but wouldn't elaborate. I am going to need a frame for a commander build.

"This is going back quite a few years so you may want to verify any information you see here"

Differences between Commander and Gov't Frame are :

Dust cover is longer so the relief cut on the slide will not line up
The recoil spring Guide Seat is ~.100" further forward on the Gov't Frame So you may not get a full slide stroke using the Commander Slide
Slide Rails are slightly longer
Ejector is Different

I droppped my combat commander slide onto an aluminum Federal Ordnance Frame about 15 years ago, and it functioned just fine, a friend tried it with Colt Frame and was not successful.

What I want is an Officers Model Frame and Commander Slide conversion, that in my opinion would be the perfect carry gun :)

Cutting the dust cover down won't be a problem, would be interesting to see if they fit.

The combo you mention with the Officer frame and commander slide was recently done and advertised somewhere.

Getting two slides to fit from different manufacturers can be impossible but you might get lucky. I think you will find the ejector cut presents a problem. Why not email Gunnar. I am sure he knows.

"Why not email Gunnar. I am sure he knows."

I am planning to get the frame through Armco and have him build the final product.
Gunsmiths don't make money telling you how to fix your own guns!:D

Tell you guys what.....I just happen to have both a commander and a NP-30 sitting in the safe .
I'll try it later tonite and let you Know.
If it works I'll head to the range tomorrow and test it out

Yup me too .......unfortunately I don't have 12(6) on my PAL

Yup that would work, not crazy about square trigger guards though. Too bad I am sitting here waiting for my PAL to be approved, thats what I get for letting the damn thing expire :bangHead:

Yes!

It does work, and in a lot of cases, the slightly longer dust cover on the frame can be left as it presents no functional problems. That way you could always pop on a 5" top end if you wanted to. The "hicap" Commander concept has some merit, although I do like the "Commanding Officers" type gun I mention at the end of this post :)

There are a few little changes to make if you use a 5" barrel with the Commander top end, but easy to do, mainly squaring up the front of the barrel lug :)

Another option is to take your 5" gun, chop the slide back to 106mm, cut and cone the barrel, pop on a new sight, and you have a ultra-Commander without buying a new slide and barrel. Will be nicer to shoot, too!

Of course the ultimate is the CO - Officer's Model frame, Commander-length top end. I have two sitting in the vault, in pieces, waiting for a few quiet days to finish building. Specs: Caspian Officers frames - one stainless, one Titanium, Caspian Commander length stainless slides, Wilson .45 stainless barrels, narrow S&A magwells, tritium combat sights, gorgeous wood grips, and of course all the usual bells and whistles such as beavertails, custom hammers, triggers and internals, ambi safeties.... Consecutive custom serial numbers, too :)

Once done, I may keep, I may sell - I'm leaning toward keeping one only...

What mags can you use in these officers frames? Can you get them in 9mm?

This is Exactly what I had in mind, I would say build them and I would be interested in the non keeper, but I like building my own :)
