thanks

Trebor,

The Tara isn't a handgun. It's a piece of cheese resembling a handgun. I think before the milk has set, they put a pipe in there as a barrel. Then a quick shot of black spray paint and you have a factory new Tara 9mm. Storing your Tara in the cheese drawer of your refrigerator might fix your trigger pull issue. :)

Granted, the Tara has it's weaknesses, but I love a challenge. If you want to trash a handgun, save it for the Hi-Point JHP. It's a range novelty, only IMO.

if you can find one I highly recommend the p250. its DAO but its got the best trigger of that type I have ever used. It's great for new shooters as it has a longer trigger pull and the trigger is the same every single shot. If I was broke and had to sell everything I would keep my P250. They can be found used on the EE for 300-400 and they are worth every penny.

I like 1911's and a couple years ago I decided a 9mm would be a good idea. I bought a Norinco NP29 and did a bit of touch-up to it. Other than the smaller than usual barrel diameter making it hard to find a barrel bushing (typical Norinco tolerances) I don't have any complaints. The bushing being a bit on the loose side doesn't seem to effect accuracy, and it's good enough I wouldn't hesitate to use it for IPSC. The only parts I replaced were the mag release because I like an extended one and the trigger so that it would match my other ones. I added a magwell that I had in a box of parts to, but it was still well under $500. Everything I did is doable with hand tools if you're a bit handy.

I recently picked a brand new NP34 (Sig P228 norinco clone) at Tenda for $308 tax included. I have two of these and both are fantastic. I did some tune up on them and they run just as well as any of my sigs

FNS9 or L

Hi everyone,

I was down at the local store today looking at a line of budget 9mm auto loaders. The Girsan mc28 felt very nice but I am seeing posts about accuracy issues.

I was wondering what the consensus is on a sub $500 pistol. Should I try and find a used beat glock or will one of these new fangled brands I've never heard of fit the bill? Looking for decent sights for my bad eyes and small frame and accurate. The rest is not as important.

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.

best regards,
offgrid

Check the EE often for the FNS 9 or 9L. Can be had for less than $500, often for less than $450 shipped,
In fact I have my FNS 9L listed now for $400 complete with original case, extra back strap and 3 mags.

Google and or watch all YT reviews. I need not repeat it’s great qualities. They are wondering why the FNS is not more popular. I wonder myself. But not complaining. I think I have one of the best polymer striker pistols, price notwithstanding.

Why am I selling? Cos my brain tells me I don’t need 4 FNS9s.

I would suggest that you not buy anything until you have had a chance to handle, and preferably fire, as many different pistols as possible. Doesn't matter how great a gun is, if you aren't comfortable with it, it could be a waste of time and money.

I thought I wanted to buy a norinco 9mm...until I held one. It wasn't comfortable. And didn't look that nice. But that's just my opinion. I believe I would have wasted time and money if I just purchased one used without holding it first. I might impulse buy a bersa thunder pro...but I haven't held one so still on the fence about it. I have held a Glock 17 and 48 and liked the 17 better. Might just have to see what a 19 feels like. After reading this thread the cz P10 and canik is on my radar as well.

Keep an eye on EE. Many people are upgrading - Black Friday = new stuff = need to free up safe space.
I will be posting my CZ Shadowline in a couple of weeks, once the new race gun arrives.

In the meantime, try as many models as you can.

A G17 would be good.

Even cheaper a Norinco NP29 1911.

I have an older Marstar and it has been super reliable, even with JHPs. You would have to swap out the tiny military sights.

M&P's are good, Girsan 92F clones are good, surplus Jericho's are good, GP's are good, lots of good 9mm offerings out there.

I had a NP58 (same pistol but in .40), it did not fit me; maybe my hands are too small; maybe my fingers too short. Mine was actually beautifully finished and was very accurate, but feeding issues with most bullet shapes was the big reason I got rid of it. Grips were crap too, but i put a set of Uncle Mike's over-molded grips on it and it was a bit better.

I had one for a short while; it was less than exciting since I had and still do have, a Nork 1911 in .45. Both worked perfectly.

What a great time to be a handgun lover, there are so many fantastic pistols available in the $500 and under range it’s almost unbelievable:)
The used market is awesome also, with M&P’s, Glocks etc available in the $450-$650 range regularly how can a guy go wrong.
I recently picked up a Norc NP34 for less than $250 on the EE and it’s an excellent shooter and finished surprisingly well, it may never replace my G19 but talk about value for money!
Canik, FN, Girsan, Norinco etc are all making handguns that can stand with the big three in terms of accuracy, and their finished product continues to improve. It’s a damn hard decision on which to buy for a new shooter these days :)
