Savage 99C 7mm-08 worth anything?

I am new to this. Could you explain what those percent values mean? is that a condition of the rifle?

Well Donedo , did you ever collect/trade CFL Football cards ?
Those percentages from the Blue Book of Gun Values represent conditions.
And that is where it gets difficult and cause for strong opinions and I will leave it at this.
100 % is bnib and 60% not so much new.
If I was into that gun and knowledgeable I would consider it to be between 40% and 70% for me to value it.
I am not posting that to offend you or an offer to value your gun.
Thats for you to decide and learn by more research...again not trying to be difficult .
The story on how you came into the gun is where the value lies.
Grandpa gave it to you... priceless or neighbour passing on a gun surplus to his needs less than priceless but a good neighbour/friend.
Tight Groups and Good Hunting with your 7mm-08.

No worries, no offense taken. I like to get objective opinions, other wise there is no point of asking the question (in my opinion anyway). In the meantime I found the description of the grading scale from BB. Thanks for your insights.

I may have a chance to take it out soon, it sounds like I should try to hunt with it at least once...

Thanks everyone for chiming in. Just wanted to give you an update. As I was getting ready for my first hunting season ever, I took few times the 99 out to a "range" nearby. It is really fun to shoot the lever action - for a guy coming from a country with very limited access to any firearms it is like a day in the wild west.

As to the results, it is definitely limited by optics. at 50y using just a sand bag below 0.5" groups of 3 shots but at 100 y it was hard to get below 2". I believe that is definitely enough for deer hunting in my area. ... but when I compared that with a modern 308 with a 9x optic my friend brought along where even with my limited experience I was able to put up to 5 rounds in less than 1" on day one. I decided to get another rifle for hunting.

I think you are selling your rifle short. First, 2" is plenty accurate enough for deer hunting. The old standard was either a milk jug or pie plate at 100 yds - if you can hit it consistently, you're good to go. Alternatively, you could try a 3-9x40 scope on there and see if you can't shrink those groups a bit with some more magnification - theoretically if its shooting 1/2" at 50, you should be able to get close to 1" at 100 too. (extrapolating 2" @ 100 gives you 6" @ 300, which is still smaller than the vital area of a deer broadside)

Nothing wrong with buying another rifle, but I don't think it is necessary.

Agree with the above. My 99c in 308 shoots about the same at 100y with the 3x9x32 scope and that is fine with me. I will add that I finally got drawn for my Mule Buck after 6 years and I'm taking the 99c to get it, even though I have many other options with the rifle I could use.

I agree with all you guys just wrote. 2" is enough for hunting, it definitely can be improved with higher magnification, it is overall good hunting rifle. Two of my buddies are using 99 in 308 for deer hunting and would not change it for anything.

The reality is though, that I will be shooting at a deer once maybe twice a year but I found out that I really like shooting :) This means that I have already spent some time in gravel pits and I am planning to sign up to a local shooting range next spring. I will be shooting mostly 100 to 300 yards with occasional long range visit. At the same time I should limit myself to one rifle at least for a while :/ Decent modern hunting rifle with decent scope will not necessarily be contest long range rifle but will be good enough to learn the long range while I am putting away money for the real deal.

In few words: typical newbie who thing's that he knows what he wants :)

Typically the 7-08 is in the same price range as the .358/284 in a Savage 99. Savage never gave out numbers as to how many of any caliber were made but 7-08 isn’t that common. What I like about my 7-08 is the wood. Nicest of any of my Savages.
