I know of the ruger red label and a few of the beretta o/u models come in 28 ga but most of these are clays guns adn far to expensive for me. Who makes a plain hunting gun in 28ga. Pump, Semi, single shot whatever?

FranchiUSA still lists the AL 48 in 28 gauge, and it is a nice light, responsive semi, you may be able to find one in Canada. The CZ / Huglu guns are available in 28 gauge in both SxS and U/O versions and make nice hunting guns. Others (such as Stoeger) will provide 28 gauge barrels on their larger frames, but you give up the advantages of a proper scaled frame gun. For example, Remington makes the Model 1100 Sporting 28, but it weighs 6 3/4 lbs.

Sub gauge shotguns always carry a premium. You can expect to pay $1,000 plus for a new 28 gauge with proper balance and weight. The least expensive would be the Stoeger Uplander at half that price, but the gun weighs in at over 7 lbs. - why bother with 28 gauge at that weight? The Baikal guns are better than the Stoegers, but also rather portly.

In a pump gun, look for the now discontinued Browning copy of the Winchester Model 12 in 28 gauge. These have a scaled frame and are well built, and can often be found at gun shows in like new condition for less than $1,000.

The Ruger Red Label is more of a hunting gun IMO because it's on a scaled 28 gauge frame as are some of the Berettas.

Guerini would be another suggestion. They make some very nice 28 gauge guns in both hunting and target configurations.

The 28 is my favourite gauge but it's not without limitations. If you want to shoot it frequently reloading is recommended.

I bought a new browning bps less than three years ago. Also the 870 is still available in 28. For the single I have an h&r but I believe New England Firearms still makes a 28. I also have an italian o/u in 28 that I got off of the EE for $800.

My next 28 will be the Cz Ringneck as Sharptail suggested though. Lot's of good reviews on the Czusa guns on this site. I am a bit of a 28 ga fan by the way
