Glock 19 magwells, OEM 10 round mags, and back straps.

I recently purchased the AA magwell for the gen4 19 Canadian variant. The magwell doesn’t allow the OEM 10 round mag to lock into place for me. Did your friend have to do any modifications?

i had this issue happen with my G19TB and the magpul magwell, i had to nibble away some of the magwell to let the magazines seat properly.
on the sides if i remember correctly.

Thanks wayupnorth. What did you use to get the job done?

I had the same problem with the Magpul magwell on a G34, used a dremel to open it up a bit on the inner edge. The Magpul is polymer, if I’m not mistaken the AA is aluminum, but the same process should work. Your other option is Pierce grip extensions and no magwell, they work fantastic for extra hand space lol

Thanks Edgy! Yes it is aluminum. I think I’ll give the dremel a try and see how that goes.

I've got a Gen 4 Canadian Edition G19 and while I like the pistol, I just can't get used to the way my pinky hangs off the bottom of the grip. I've been researching (the web and here) about magwells as I'm thinking that a low profile one will give me that little extra that I want.

Problems;
- most don't allow the use of the medium back strap (there are some possible work arounds and in the end, I myself can work around that)
- most don't allow the use of OEM 10 round mags (they won't lock in)

Is anyone running a low profile magwell with OEM 10 rounders and if so, which magwell are you running.

I've been looking at the Magpul, Agency Arms, and GlockStore offerings primarily but none seem to work with my mags, and the latter two are expensive to order just to test.

Thanks in advance.

In my experience, the Agency magwells have worked with (Glock) OEM 10 rounders. They are available in no-backstrap, medium-backstrap, and large-backstrap versions, and they both fit and look great. On the Gen4 G19 the Agency magwell caused me to suffer a too-high grip which, in turn, caused a random magazine dropping issue (when shooting left-handed), so I removed the magwell.

JF gunworks makes mag extensions (Canadian made products) and he has one model that's designed to work with OEM 10/10 and certain magwells.

I used a file to shave away the interior lip of the magwell. I found that I had to shave away most of the ramp to the point where the frame was clearly visible. This created space so that the magwell didn’t touch the factory magazine. The OEM 10 round magazines now seat easily with the same effort as if there was no magwell.

G19 FDE with Zev magwell. I filed the inner lip so it aligns mags optimally, but I use G17 mags, so I didn't bother fitting it for G19 mags. With medium force I can slam a G19 mag and it locks, but I would file it more if I had to use G19 mags. Repeated slamming, and constant pressure would cause excess wear on the mag, mag release, and base plate.

For size comparison, that's a Carver Custom on the G34. The Carver has such a big opening the 17/34 mag seats and locks, but is so deep, you have to use the heel of your hand and really counter sink to get it in all the way. I also fit the inner lip on this to improve feed angle.

G19 with G19 mag, G34 with G17/34 mag

Both with G17/34 mags.
