Potentially dumb question I know, but I've been looking for this data on the web and have only found warnings that it is dangerous but nothing saying it cannot be done. I appreciate it could be a bit dangerous with the brass ejecting in front of your face and if any massive failure occurs in the action you'd be in the wrong spot.

regards,

I'm a leftie and a fan of the m14,i've had no problems at all with brass ejection.I don't even notice the brass.I would not worry about wich side you shoot your m14 from in the event of a massive failure, left or right its gonna hurt.Such failures are very rare, shoot safe, keep her in good shooting condition and feed her good ammo and you woun't have a problem.

Left-handed fans of the M14 should watch the Oliver Stone movie Born on the Fourth of July.

No, it cannot be fired from the left, sorry. For your convenience I will send you my PAL number for the transfer with the CFC and then you will just have to ship your M1A/M14 to my adress. Doing so will give you a peace of mind knowing that your gun is now in a good and safe right-handed shooter home...:D

Yeah.... I mean what he said:evil:

"...found warnings..." Said warnings being full of excrement. No semi-auto is the least bit dangerous fired left-handed. The extracted brass from a real semi'd M14 gets launched out and up over your shoulder. So does the brass out of an M1. Although you can get hit by the clip coming out. Mind you, so can a backwards shooter.

I think you will find the M14 to be extremely lefty friendly. The safety and mag release are both ambi and it is no problem racking the slide with your right hand. I have put about 5000 rounds through M14s with no issues with brass in my face. And yes I have had Garand clips bounce off my head many times.

One thing I would suggest is a decent pair of safety glasses. Shooters should always wear safety glasses but it is especially so for lefty's shooting the M14. Years ago a case hit my glasses and cut a nice crescent shaped gouge. Don't even want to think what that would have done to an unprotected eye.

Otherwise the M14 is perfectly safe to shoot from the proper shoulder. :)

I agree with all my fellow lefties no problems with a M14. Sunray I disagree with the statement that All semis are not dangerous for lefties. The British SA-80 if fired lefty will knock out teeth because of the bolt design the charging handle will ( I speak from experience) smack you in the teeth.
