If I recall correctly, the A1 specification includes a trigger guard made of metal rather than plastic. Not sure if there is anything else to it. My 590A1 SP has a metal trigger, (and 18" barrel and plastic stock) and cost half what that one does. But that was at least ten years ago and our dollar can't do what it did then. If I didn't already have mine, that wood stock would be a big help getting me to pay that much more. I prefer plastic stocks in some situations, but wood stocks always feel better to me.
