How long did it take you to shoot your firsth straight round?

This true. Sporting Clays, I shoot it to have fun, don't really take it seriously, I end up in the middle to upper-middle of the packs, which is fine by me. I usually travel with a couple of older gentlemen who spend most of the day ribbing each other, I always have fun.

It is a fun game and it provides the challenge of constantly changing target presentations.

I just shot my first ever 25 at skeet today. It took me eleven years! How long did it take you to shoot yours?

Trap shooters and SC shooters are welcome to contribute. Just specify the discipline.

Well, I did not have to wait nearly as long for the second one. Shot it yesterday! 3 outings and about 7 rounds later!

Congrats!

Now... WHERE is the picture of you wearing your ball cap AFTER they shot it up to celebrate your success?

The fourth round of trap I shot ended with a 25 straight the fifth gave me a 50 straight, this kept going until I missed target 84 ( If memory serves me correct) I was shooting a Belgium made Browning O/U with 26” barrels choked IC /M .
After that I decided the gun was too light and short so I sold it and bought a Berretta A 300, was never able to shoot another straight round with that gun. Got back on track a couple years later when I bought a Citori GTI.
It’s all about gun fit.

Congrats!

I have a short video of the cap being shot by my squad. The club ( Montreal Skeet Club) took a picture of me with the cap, but they have not posted it to social media yet. I will post a link when they do.

Congrats!

We run a junior program each year (with the exception of this one) and one of the highlights is when a kid gets a first 25, more often than not they can't wait to get their cap shot for a trophy! Since caps don't fly very well unless there's a stiff wind blowing, I usually put a block of wood inside it and throw it out in front of the squad, this is all done in a safe manner of course and there's usually not many misses but the howls of laughter when they see the damage is worth hearing!

Shooting in trap competition one day, I missed the first target, then shot 99 straight. The judge knew me well, and offered to officially score one more target. Note: My official score was 99 (for the four rounds), but the judge wanted to give me the opportunity to shoot 100 consecutive targets. The clay went out, and I missed it. We still laugh about it.

Those stories are better than shooting 100s. I once shot 98 straight, got cocky and missed 99. But I hammered 100. This fall I shot 25, 24, 25 and was on my 23rd target and thought, easy 99 all I have to do is break two more targets. And then I missed the last two in quick succession. :d

One of my tricks for not getting flustered on the last shot is to have more than 25 rounds in my vest. A couple of times I blew a straight when I pulled out the last shell and it dawned on me that I hadn't missed.

If you have already dropped a couple birds during the round you will smash low house 8 every time. It is all mental, you can crush every target when you are not worried about score. Once you start worrying about score you will mess it up for sure. You just have to change your way of thinking. Once you start thinking "don't miss, don't F this up", you have already set your mind and talked yourself into missing the bird. If you get on station 8 and think to yourself, "I crush these every time", then you are giving yourself the positive talk to crush them. There is a lot to mental management.

To add to the question, 3 months to shoot my first straight in 20 ga, that happened yesterday. Your right GHUBERT, once you still start thinking or getting excited, your done. I also watched that happen yesterday on Station 8 with another member.

How about if I throw another curve ball question here

So you have shot straight last weekend and everybody is talking about it.

You turn up the following weekend feeling really chuff and proud of yourself

You know what’s going to happen next boys ......

This is real clay shooting at the top level.

He who cracks this is the 1% very few attains

So to recap I rather be somebody who shoots 23/24 consistently and most important “ON DEMAND” than somebody who shoots a straight round as a one hit wonder.

My first round of trap was a 12, my second a 24. A couple months later I had my 25. By co-incidence a new girl got her 25 on the same round.

After that round I sat down with the cheerful helpfull old guy that every club has and told him my news. I still remember his reply.

"It isn't your first 25; you're just too picky and want them on the same round. There's a lot of random chance involved in that happening;)".
