This seems a little unsporting. Drones and remote camera systems have become a no go in BC for the same reason.

From a safety aspect I really like the ability to see where my friends/family are but a simple location share with whatsapp can do that.

I like getting the deer as much as the next person but using GPS real time maps just takes away too much of the deer's chance to get away in my book.

Creepy... Does this come with glasses with a built in HUD system so you can always have the little mini map in the top right corner with your teammates and the objective ? What about a chat box in the other corner so you can see texts while you're playing, er, i mean, hunting.

I thought it was illegal to hunt with electronic devices? eg, drone, radio's if hunting with multiple people ect..... Except in a life or death emergency you can use devices? was I steered wrong in this? Am in Alberta.

You are mostly wrong. Drones have been banned in most places, which makes sense seeing as hunting or spotting by air is already illegal. Otherwise, electronics are mostly fine. Radios or cellphones (if you have service, I usually don't) can be indispensable if you are hunting with other people. A GPS app with topo and satellite imagery is fair game, IMO. Keeps me from getting lost and helps me find a likely-looking spot. Also very handy for finding your way back to your kill in the dark! But this video-game-style tracking your team in realtime is a bit much, I think. The Inreach emergency locator beacon lets you text via satellite if you are out of cell reception. Then there's the good old satellite phones for those whose wives are worry-warts ;-).

I thought so as well, but in reading the wildlife act (tables of prohibited items near end of document) I see nothing prohibiting electronic communication. Drones and aircraft are listed along with electronic calls (except for snow geese and pests and certain predator/fur-bearers like coyotes and foxes).

It appears it is allowed, but I am not a lawyer or a conservation officer so maybe give the CO a call before you decide for yourself. Read the current AB wildlife act below

Or it may not. Would you really want to base a decision to shoot or not shoot on what an app is telling you re: where your hunting partners are? What if it's wrong, or simply reporting where they were 10 minutes ago rather than where they are now?

When a round gets fired, the responsibility for where it goes lies squarely on the shoulders of the one who fired it, not on what a third party technological tool reports. If I have *any* doubt about where my hunting partners are, I don't shoot. Period.
