Zeiss V-4

Received the scope today..glad I went with the -20 reticle and not the t-20 reticle as I think the T "target" would have been too thin.

Didn't realize the reticle had windage hold off marks down to the 20 MOA hashmark...bonus!

This is the newest V-4 and has the exposed windage turret with a lock at 10 MOA left and right as well as a lock, have to lift the turret to turn...:)

Love the illumination 10 position rheostat with off between each setting.

For my eyes I think the glass is one up on the VX5/6HD's , super clear to the edge (but will have to compare better once the storm clears and I can view detail out to the ridge top 3kms from the house)...goat country!

Zero stop doesn't limit turret revolution...have 69 MOA up left with a 200 yard zero mounted in 20 MOA talley lighweights...big bonus!

Need some trigger time once the winter storm passes, to get a better feel for it though...really happy so far!

I've got a Fierce Carbon Edge 6.5 PRC on the way and thinking of buy this scope for it: Zeiss V-4 6-24x50 ZMOAi-20.

https://www.zeiss.com/consumer-produ....html#reticles

This gun will be used for longer range shooting along with general hunting.

Reviews I've read look good, any thought?

Any UPDATES on your new rifle and Scope ? Are you liking it ? hows's it shoot ? :) RJ

I don't have that many rounds through it yet but I'm really liking it...it easily meets the 1/2 moa guarantee with the 147's even with me shooting it :)

Scope is great as well, glad I went with the little thicker reticle for darker objects at dusk although the illumination would have probably worked okay with the thinner reticle.

Just got some 156 eol's a day ago, so once the rain lets up will try retumbo for groups...just shot this a few rounds for velocity and pressure so far, 2950fps should be safe even with Hornady brass...:)

Just my opinion but I think so far it is a nicer rifle than my Christensen Arms Traverse...stock is Carbon fiber (super light), trigger adj 1-4lbs, action is very smooth, Quasi CRF feeds superbly, ejection is great(was worried about this)..so far I love it.

This rifle/scope combo with talley lightweight 20moa mounts gives me a full 69 MOA of up with a 200 yard zero plus the scope gives another 20 to play with...more than enough!

It puts a smile on my face every time I shoot it...:)

A 50mm bell is huge when mounted on a rifle......
Rob

Well it is and it isn't...I've got others with 44 MM bells and 30mm tubes that are mounted in Talley medium height rings, the 50mm fits with med. rings as well so not much difference.

The 4-16x44 V4 is less than 2ozs lighter in weight and is limited on a lot of rifles to a med mount because of bolt lift

If you go 1 inch tube and 40mm then yes it is noticeable which I have a multitude of rifles set up as such IF that is what I think I need for a hunt...:)

I've even got some optics as low a 2-7 but IMHO there is absolutely NO situation that I have ever seen(in 50 years of hunting) where I (like in ME) need to go below 4 power on a scope. :)

Should get around 2925 FPS with the 156 ers and a stout load - RJ

I'll have to see how the primer pockets last on the Hornady brass but at 58 grs of retumbo @2938fps (if my memory serves).

When I mic the case at the base just ahead of the extractor groove, it measures the same as the once fired factory ammo so I'm thinking my pressure is not high at this point...but I could very well be wrong :)
