Does anyone own or know of anyone who owns a Norinco JW-15A bolt-action rifle? It's the one that accepts the .22LR ammo. I am thinking about buying one from Marstar Canada when I get my PAL. I don't know much about these rifles but I have heard a few good reviews about it. Any info would be great, thanks!

The action being a clone of the Brno, it is more sophisticated that most other low priced bolt action .22s. They shoot well, nothing wrong with the barrels. They tend to be quite rough as far as finish goes. The stock is soft. Given a brand new JW, and something used, like one of the older classic .22s from years past, forget the JW. But for a brand new economy rifle they are quite satisfactory. If you want to practice gunsmithing skills, one can be slicked up very nicely.

Good solid actions, great project in a box if you have a dremmal tool and a sander.Mine hates hollow points but will clover leaf targets at 50 yards with CCI solid point ammo. The rifles are all steel,no pot metal or plastic, for the price($159.00 at Marstar) you can,t go wrong

I bought one of these this spring. Agree the wood is pretty ugly. looks like the finish had paint mixed into it. I'll probably strip it, sand it down and try refinishing it and see what it looks like.

As for accuracy, I'm really happy with it. I figured to try it out with the factory sights first. I've put about 1000 rds + through it and and am ready to add a scope. It shoots more accurately than I can shoot without a scope. Once I get a decent scope, it should be interesting. My feeling is that it's pretty accurate.

The machining seems a little rough. Once you get the right ammo it feeds okay. Mine won't feed hollow point ammo but does okay with basic Remington 40 grain. I think this might be a problem with the magazine as they don't seem to hold the cartrige high enough for it to feed into the barrel. I keep thinking this might remedy itself once I've got enough rounds through it and it loosens up. So far no luck though

For the money, I say go for it. If you want a pretty rifle you can show off, then go with something else. Once you start replacing a lot of parts it stops being a bargain.

update

Just put a scope on this puppy. Went with a Bushnell Banner 4-12 x 40mm with ao. Nice scope. followed the advice of paying almost as much for the scope as for the gun.

Have to say I'm dissappointed with the accuracy. Not sure If I'm expecting too much but I had hoped that with a scope i'd be making one hole at 25 yards. Goal was to get into 100 yard or even 200 yard shooting.

Don't think this gun is gonna cut it for that purpose. Still a good plinker though. Not something I regret. it's good to have a couple of 22's around for friends/family who wanna try shooting. I will probably take the scope off and replace with open sights. Then maybe get a CZ for the scope.

If you can find a new TOZ-78 for a good price, buy that instead. They were $100 at Armrus (out of business) a while back and have great triggers and exceptional accuracy. Do a search on here and you will find alot of threads.

I picked one up from SIR years ago for about $100 in 22 magnum-no its not in the same class as my BRNO 22,but it shoots well and is accurate.

Epps website shows they've got a bunch.

They're priced at $219 though. I like my Toz-78, but I don't know if I'd buy one at that price.
