I had a great day yesterday... Even though the wind in Southern Alberta was blowing like it's usual insane levels.

Out hunting with some friends, one was in the truck, at the bottom of the coolie, I was at the top & one below, pushing for deer. We hadn't gotten through the first coolie, when I saw 2 hunters... Looking my way. I saw a rifle come up & I dropped like a rock, JUST in case... as bullets start whizzing by! I call my partner below & she was also taking cover. Well the herd of deer these noobs were shooting at, took off running, the noobs went to the south side of a large hump in the valley, NOT going where they shot, but chasing the herd...

So I found their doe that they shot... And even more bizzarre, I was honest enough to radio my friend in the truck to chase em down & bring em back, as they had continued on, oblivious to the fact they had downed the deer. AKA they're damn lucky I & my partners are too damn honest.

So we continue pushing a couple more coolies & end up back at the truck, thinking it's a good time for a coffee break. We're headed up to the top of the plateau, so we can find another coolie to push down (it's SO much more pleasant to push em top to bottom, go figure, LOL!).

Well we get to the top & the head of the next coolie we're planning to push & lo & behold, there's a fair decent herd of deer. The other gal & I hop out, she's spotting for me (as my hunting partners made a decision that since they had gotten a deer each already, that it was my turn. They're awesome). I take aim at a big mulie doe & take my time, fight down the instinct to succumb to buck fever, and down she goes. 210 yards, right to the neck spine. Perfect shot.

My friend then tells me to look down & be ready. Out pops my second mulie doe. Smaller, but I'm thinking tender. So down goes the second. First shot takes out the back, second, the liver. Again about 200+ yards.

I get up & I'm reloading (as I figure if I can't kill a deer by the third shot, I DESERVE to go hungry, lol) just in case. I hear my partner yell, so I stop... & she drops her antlerless White tail buck! Turns out it's a mixed herd. So she's now got hers... All in less than 5 minutes.

By the time we dragged the deer out & up to the top, got them field dressed & into the truck, it wasn't even 11 AM. That's what I call a VERY fine morning. Ironically, the coyotes were VERY enthusiastic about our success as well... They were howling & getting nearer by the minute, before we finished cleaning the second deer.

I'm kinda sad I didn't have a tag for a mulie buck... There was a BIG one at the bottom of the coolie, easily 5 points per side. Ah well, luck o the draw :)

The worst part of the hunt? We ALL forgot to bring a camera! AACCKK

Not quite. 128 not far from Hays.

It pays to be an aware hunter. ESPECIALLY when you get such brain dead noobs out there.

And yep, it turned out it was the one guy's first deer too.

Glad you had a good hunt and are safe. I'm going out on a limb here. You had bullets coming your way, must have been the 108 by Magrath, right? I'm too bloody scared to go there anymore. It's like a bloody warzone!

Congrats! Glad to hear you had a good morning. I'll never understand how someone can not realize they will probably hit what they are shooting at.
