Economy barrel options

Stainless Wilson’s are still only $170 south of the border, yet up here they are $450.

Have you tried ordering one out of the US through one of the importers??? With their fee and taxes, around $350, the last time I had one brought up.

Numrich arms carried cheap barrels too but I learned over time that budget barrels were false economy if you really want it to shoot accurately .Its a 50/50 gamble because you wont know if it will shoot till you are done all the work .At least the better barrel makers have a warranty so if it is a stinker you can get a new one.I stick with barrel makers that double heat treat and lap there barrels.Modern barrels with these processes shoot remarkably well . So pay your money and take your chances or pay a bit more and improve your odds.

Nine35 also carries green mountain, but by the time he pays someone to contour it - it’s probably false economy.

This is true for any cheap, imported bbls. I was under the impression that the OP could do the work himself. Not much info given by him to work with. Maybe because of a lack of knowledge??

Green Mountain used to offer barrels contoured to four different profiles. I don't know if they still do.

I like their barrels. Still have a couple left. The thing I really like about them is that I don't have to wait for six months to a year to get one, like I have to with Canadian barrel makers.

Green Mountain all the way. I used a GM blank for my 1:7 twist stainless 22 Creedmoor. Comparing to a Savage barrel using a borescope it's like night and day - the Green Mountain has no bore reamer marks. Very smooth. And shoots accurately by my standards; I've gotten many groups under 1/2 MOA. I'm sure a Douglas or Kreiger barrel would be even better but I find the Green Mountain stuff to be good enough.

My experience has pretty much been the same. I see they now offer match grade barrels, 224 bores, with 1-7-8 twist rates. I have a Ruger No1 that needs something else on it. 7

As for their other offerings, if I were building a competition rifle, they wouldn't be my first choice
