I searched the forum a little bit, but I couldn't find a thread that shows where to find and buy milsurp firearms. If there is another post that's like this, I am sorry to those ppl who hates things like this.

Anyway, just wanting to know where I can find a nice military surplus rifle to shoot.

Also, I would like to know which of these rifle are more common in Canada : Finnish Mosin-Nagant, Swedish Mauser, Swiss Model 31.

Lastly, if there is any military surplus that you recommends to me I would like to hear from you.

Thank you

Apply for the EE (Equipment Exchange) and look under the appropriate section.... :)

Refer to the Q&A help forum at the top of the main forums screen.

Also, find out when there are local guns shows in your area and attend them.

In terms of numbers of guns in Canada, I'd put the order like this:

1) Swede Mauser (most common)
2) Finnish Mosin Nagant (somewhat uncommon)
3) K31 (Uncommon)

In terms of what is currently available for sale at retail, however, the list is reversed:

1) K31 (all the major dealers have a few in stock)
2) Finn mosin (virtually none left at retail)
3) Swede Mauser (Only used guns on consignment left at retail)

for a first milsurp its hard to beat a Mosin M44.
you can get them all over the place for around $150 and most are re-arsenaled to practically new condition with crisp shiny bores and chambers, so you dont have to worry about pitted bores, headspace issues, etc. that plague a lot of older issued milsurps.
parts and accessories are widely available, as well as aftermarket sporterizing crap if you want it, and you can easily find non-corrosive soft-point hunting ammo for them for around $10 a box, and its a durable and reliable action.
that said 7.62x54r surplus ammo is scarce in Canada at the moment, but milsurp ammo is scarce in general right now.

"...Swiss ammo is very uncommon..." Commercial 7.5 Swiss isn't terribly difficult to find. Not necessarily in B.C. though. Epp's lists it. However, reloading is the way to go. Shipping ammo costs a fortune.

Thank you for all the answer guys.

From what I'm hearing from you guys, I better grab as much as good milsurp as much as possible! I think 10 of each rifle would be good enough as a life time supply!

Claven2, I better grab as much K31 as I can as much as possible, I do like the straight pull of the rifle .

manbearpig, I guess a $150 brand new Mosin M44 couldn't hurt! but, milsurp ammo in this type of rifle won't hurt either. Plus I now actually really hate those beautiful milsurp rifles with a plastic stock. Wood all the way! I will put M44 in the maybe section and eat up as much K31 and Swedish Mauser 1st. (If I get lucky a Fin Mosin)

Hitzy, thanks for pointing out psmilitaria I couldn't find it one the search engine.

Calum, ammo shouldn't be a problem as I'm planning to go to one of the reloading class and get a Lee set. I know that there are boxer brass out there for 7.5 swiss, so ammo shouldn't be a problem.

sunray, Thanks I will check out Epp, once I get a k31.

Now since milsurp is a limited thing, I wonder if I should buy 2 rifles and shoot the hell out of one.

One more question - If I was to reblue and tinker with the rifle, would I lose value to the milsurp?

Depends, if you buy 2 NEW condition rifles or one is very rare, not a bad idea to make one a safe queen while using the other one. If they are both well used examples of common rifles, then no harm in shooting them both.
Rebluing will lower the value of any milsurp to a collector, but probably increase the value for a non-collector looking for a shooter.
Any tinkering should be 100% reversible. No drilling and tapping for scope mounts, no cutting of wood...etc etc.
