Hey all,
just got back from the whitetail rifle hunt in the haliburton area.Week started off slowly with just a fawn on the opening day. Tues we got 4 and Wed I shot a couple ( small 4 pointer and a doe within 5 mins ). After wed we went Mature bucks only as we had enought meet but had troubles finding the big boyz . ( a couple of the guys missed big brutes during the first few days so we know there around)
Thurs and friday was fun.. I saw 3 small bucks and a a doe and a fawn within 30 yards but gladly passed up as did the other guys. Sat morning came around and me and one other guy got up for the morning still hunt before breakfast. We had to be back for 8 30 to eat and start skinning. Got to the stand at 6 50. Around 7 15 i heard cracking in the distance and after searching and seeing nothing I saw a large bodied deer and a nice rack through the scope. The buck was about to take off in the deep pines when I threw out a 112 yard shot through pretty thick brush at him with the 7mm. I thought I missed but was hard to tell since all the brush. 10 mins waiting I went down to look and maybe 50 yards in I heard craashing in the bush. I can see a flag stumbling through the hardwoods as i get closer and then i find the an excellent bloodtrail. Follow the trail for a bit and i find him all piled up.
All of my deer were shot with my rem710 in 7mm .150 grain Remington core lokt. All needed just one shot.
Great ending to the week. here are some pics.
