Road Hunters

I think I found your stand.

IMHO logging roads are not qualified as roads. :D

But I agree that shooting from and or on the vehicle is illegal, and pretty stupid.

I don't condone that. Perhaps they do it different in your area. Here it's common practice to check out a lot of areas with the truck. Once game is spotted, then close in on foot and try to get a shot.

Nope. The guy who walked in is the bozo as he's obviously not bright enough to get off the beaten path. Why didn't he drive in? I used to hike waaay in on the cutlines when I was young only to be met by someone on a trike (before quads) I'd get all pissed off until I discoved that if I got off the cutlines in the first place, I didn't meet anyone. Problem solved.
Let's face it, if you hunt where there are roads and easy access, you are going to run into others so you either have to suck it up or put some distance between you and the rest of the crowd. I've solved the problem two ways. We bought a farm so we have a private place to hunt on our own land. And secondly, we are raising horses. It's not for everyone, but I've always enjoyed hunting with horses even with the wrecks we get into :D

I imagine that you and I have to clarify the definition of "road" before we go any further. If you mean that the fellow who walked in is a bozo for walking up a paved or graveled road or even a truck path, then I agree with you. The bozo that I refered to is "me". I had permission to hunt a grazing lease where it is clearly stated (if you get proper permission from the lease holder) that there are no off-road motorized vehicles allowed. The jerk in the truck had opened the gate, drove in, left the gate open and met me on the trail. This experience has been shared by some of my fellow hunters who also don't mind putting some wear and tear on a pair of boots instead of a set of Michelins. Being the most jerk-off road hunters don't even bother with permissions and are even too lazy to get out and close gates, I'll stand by my opinion. ;)

I also hunt southern Ontario, but when I walk off the road 300 yards I am halfway to the next road. Hmm maybe thats why it is so noisy in my stand?

I figure if someone has a reason to shoot from a vehicle due to disability, it pays to have that ol sticker in the window... Blue & white, shows a person shape in a wheelchair... Then it's fine & dandy. Do it when it's safe to do so & you have your permits...

BUT if a person shoots a deer, THEN gets out of his truck, hikes up or down a steep hillside like it's a Sunday stroll... Sorry guys, if he's good enough to walk, he's good enough to get off the butt & get OUT of the truck to shoot.

Personally, I primarily LOVE the good truck hunters (those who exit their trucks to shoot & DON'T aim at ME or my hunting partner(s)). They drive all sorts of game right to me. :)

Any person who shoots from a maintained public in Ontario is an idiot! I too would want this person charged. Get off your lazy, law breaking ass and get into the woods if you want to hunt.

It's the weekend warriors on their ATV's that give a whole new definition to road hunting, stress/pressure on game, and add a new dimension to the width/functionability/condition of the "roads" being used to persue game and/or just travel. Traditonal truck road hunters, other hunters, are IMO fairly easy to avoid with just a pair of boots, a GPS & being relatively fit.

Right now "road hunting" is the only way my wife will go.

You see a lot more country and get to talk about things you wouldn't walking or riding a quad.

My hunts have been bit by the road hunter when I was too close to he road. Sucks, but it was my own fault. Education tax I guess.

Scout your land and hopefully you can find a spot away from the road. Its not easy, but that's hunting.

The fact is deer are not afraid of cars. That is why poacher shoot often from cars sometimes using strong flash lights to blind the game.

Stopping a car and wandering out to shoot a spotted deer ! Sorry, the most idiotic comment I ever heard.
One guy drives, the other guy loads and unloads the gun and then smack the buck through the window - that is how it works! Saw it and I may even have a photo and plate no.!

that is the most idiotic statment ever made!

your saying that 100 guide outfitter companies, and 1000s of hunters all poach? thats how it works because you saw it? :jerkit:

many guides in BC and several in alberta road hunt there spring bear, especialy were baiting is prohibited, many folks road hunt (either in a truck or atv) moose every fall due to the mass logging in areas making it hard to sit and wait, as well do many guide outfitters

you and some others have taken and blamed a huge number of hunters for illegal acts when in fact its a small number of idiots running around breaking laws, no different than the guy that sneeks into private land with a tree stand to hunt illegaly or the guy that uses a boat to chase swimming game down, does that make all jetboat hunters bad now to ?

we could always ban fly in hunts to seeing a guy got charged with shooting from a pontoon of a moving floatplane

being the guy that drives 3 hours to walk 5 minutes and climb into a tree stand makes you no more of a hunter than the guy that flies into a lake and walks 40 miles in 3 days or a guy that quads logging blocks day in and day out looking for a moose or the guy that drives the logging road in a truck looking for the same game.

mike tyson bit a guy in a boxing ring then raped a woman, guess all boxers are rapist canibals now :jerkit:

well mumps the real tragedy is alot of the guys complaining have only ever posted failure stories on the board, no sucsess stories of there own ;)

True enough.

The anger wins over common sense all to often.

The day a road hunter screwed up my shot on a 150 +whitey I could have jumped over a bus I was so mad.

So I posted how mad I was on Nutz and everyone told me to get my head out of my ass ha,ha.

So I took my head out and now hunt on the other side of the 1/4 where this year I had another 150+ coming to me at 30 yds and I screwed that up all on my own.:D

Went road hunting last week. We got 4 logging roads, 1 street, 3 avenues and a highway ( limited entry for the highway mind you ).

Next year we hope to get a freeway but the a**holes from Ontario will probably elect a Liberal government by that time and make road hunting illegal.

you dont think folks do this obviously as YOU stated:jerkit:

so you MAY have 1 plate number just maybe perhaps? 1 plate, how many hunters hunt in your province? 20-30-40 thousand people? but thats how it works because you may have ONE plate number, good call buck expert:rolleyes:

I hate to admit this but WE road hunt. We drive the concession roads when it is still dark and shine our lights into the fields and onto the roads to see which way the yotes tracks in the snow are going into the block. We then drive miles to look for a visual (coyote standing in his tracks), get out of the vehicle and walk off the road and shoot the poor critter ( yea right, must be one stupid yote or maybe a dog) or you can walk into a concession, freeze while sitting in the snow playing a game caller for hours to until the batteries go dead? ( Yea right, give me road hunting). And if we miss the visual I will track him 10 concessions until it gets dark and now Ihave to walk back to the vehicle since the yote would not wait to be shot, now this is hunting. Stupid hunting.
