300 PRC and other 30 Cal Cartridges

The only thing I ever shoot beyond 600 meters is paper, so the 300 PRC has no particular advantage
over the big 30's I already use.

When I am shooting paper at beyond the 600 M mark, I will use a 6mm, 6.5mm or a 7mm, Not a 30 cal.
Dave.

I've got 2 300WSM's, 2 300WM's, 1 30Nosler, and 1 300PRC...If I'm shooting past 400 Yards because it is designed to shoot long, heavy high bc bullets from the get go (I'm shooting 245EOL's) IMHO the 300PRC is the winner...:)

US army special Op's snipers came to the same conclusion and they do a lot more long range than me....:)

And ... Lapua jumped on the bandwagon producing brass for the early coming spring as well.

Will I try a 300 PRC one day? Absolutely.

Does it do everything a 300 win mag does? Sure.

Is it worth it? Nope.

If i'm wanting to shoot a big 30 cal i'll go shoot a 300 Norma, 30-338 lapua or maybe even a RUM. The PRC doesn't have enough perks about it to warrant the switch from the win mag or the RUM. Maybe besides the "look at me" factor.

If I was considering a long range target rifle it.would.be considered. I'm not. I'm a hunter, the longist animal ive ever taken is 275 yrs. My 300 wm, 308 nm, 30-06, or 30 rum are plenty. If I want to push bullets larger than 208gr/30, then a 250 nosler partition in 340 wea, 300 accubond in 375 rum, or 400gr in 416 rigby.

The 300 RUM would be great with a custom chamber, an 8 twist barrel and a Wyatt 3.825 mag box....otherwise sorta ho-hum :)

The 300 PRC was designed to shoot heavy high BC bullets, most 30 cal cartridges were not designed for this without using up a bunch of your powder column, its not going to do anything better inside of 500 yards that any other 30 cal cartridge can do,

It was designed to shoot long range, the very first time I shot at over 800 yards with it I shot 3 shots into 3.5" inches, this was with factory ammo, the gunsmith that built the gun was spotting for me, he says cool.

If you don't have a 30 cal magnum rifle this would be the only cartridge I would look at, if you have one already its all you need unless you want to go plinking between 500-1500 yards then I would go 300 PRC.

Its a great cartridge, but so is the 6.5CM, 280AI and the 6.5 PRC !
