Semi-auto CETME Modelo A

I didn't take as many pics as I should have, but I'll try to post some more up.

Think of it as a pseudo "get out of jail free card". Obviously this rifle would attract a lot of attention, and from my experience there is no shortage of people in this community that waste no time to get on the phone with the RCMP. In that case it would be extremely helpful to have an FRN/FRT#.

What if they deem it to be prohibited? Any #### going to fly your way or will they just trash it?

You should start formulating price sheets. If you get the go ahead you're going to have lots of curiosity coming your way

You should read through the cross-examination of Murray Smith of the "LAB". You will see how they formulate logic to prohibit firearms, versus evaluate the firearm on its function. If a firearm looks like x but uses SIMILAR (not same/identical) internal parts (roller mech etc) then it can be classified as a variant. Thats what they looked at to reclassify the SLR and MS-H/V.

According to Murray there is a method of "appeal" where you can contact the lab and have discussion regarding the mistakes. I sincerely doubt anyone has been successful without having some way to tie his hands

if you dont mind sharing, what went into creating this? What kind of machining and parts did you have to use?

Didn’t the Con government pass legislation stating that after a certain period of time, the RCMP couldn’t arbitrarily change they minds regarding firearms that the lab had approved as non-restricted?

A bit about our hero Murray Smith.

Murray Smith is prime example of how Canadian Government really works, where unelected bureaucrats wield disproportional amount of power in any given field, because politicians are circus seals trained to open their mouths on command.

he is the guy who decides what is banned in Canada. Funny fact, he determined that last import of welded VZ58 was a separate "Spartan" variant of prohibited select fire Vz58 rifle, and not the NR semi Vz58 model, just based on the engraving.

He also came up with "certificate nullification" legal term, "dual use magazines" legal term, which are not in FA, decided that 22lr rifle magazine was designed for pistol 30 years before said pistol existence. Pretty much he makes "determinations" and RCMP treats them like they are law (FA).

Crown dodges the legislation prescribing 1 year limit on the reclassification by saying that FRT is just an opinion. According to Murray Smith RCMP will arrest you and Crown will charge you based on that opinion, and you will have to prove that you are innocent.

Not innocent until proven guilty, but guilty until proven innocent.

CETME - I might be in error, but was a semi-auto designed by and for Spain to use 7.62 NATO that did not work out too well - had to create the 7.62 CETME cartridge - a reduced power version of 7,62 NATO for it to function properly. What you have built - submitted to the lab - is it for the 7.62 CETME cartridge, or for the 7.62 NATO cartridge??

While the folks who designed the CETME were actually geniuses, the folks who formulated the requirements for the CETME rifle were actually "a bunch of geniuses" who felt that what Spain needed was a fully automatic rifle that could be fired from the shoulder and hit targets at 1 km. Though not necessarily at the same time.

nail on the head.

The cross examination of M smith have opened up a can of worms. I hope this opens up avenue for appeals of past decisions based on incorrect classification.

If we're lucky the ATRS legal battle will pay off and even more of their actions will be on display for the reasonable, rational person to see how unfair the system has been and was created under these peoples' "guidance"

What’s with these people. Be nice just to be treated fairly for once. I honestly think some of these life long bureaucratese get off screwing people over. I really hope they get a wake up call and a little bit of sanity prevails with these challenges.

Thank you for posting this, its the most briefly accurate description of Mr. Smith and some of what he has done at the lab that I have read on CGN. This ATRS court case just may finally hold the entire BS of the lab and firearms act to account...

I would buy one of these immediately if available. So much much awesomeness with a CETME stamped steel receiver battle rifle

Where does one find a copy of that cross-examination?

I got one from the same batch. The most I ever had said to me was that it looked like something a terrorist would have.LOLLLL.

What an idiot you had to deal with. Too blind and stupid to see reality. That sure describes a FUDD and it isn't hard to see what a tumor they are on our sport.

I'm not surprised in the least bit. Wayyy back when Canada Ammo brought in the first Tavor and was sending it around to various people as a sort of medi-tour, I went to pick it up at a local gun store. The first thing the guy working behind the counter said was "that is illegal". I asked him "oh really? what is it?" and his reply: "I don't know, but it's illegal". Lol.

Where does one find a copy of that cross-examination?

I'm currently putting together a "highlight reel" of the important quotes of interest from Murray Smith. Will make another post with it in a few days.
