Small Takedown Pump Shotgun

For the past few years I've had a Norinco 13" break Shotgun as my go to gun for camping. It's small and light, fits in my pack and it's cheap enough I wouldn't be offended if it got wet when we tipped the canoe. It's getting older and sometimes it breaks itself down when you shoot it, so I'd like to replace it and get something with more capacity, does anyone make a short barrel Takedown 12ga that would fit the role? I thought I saw one from a turkish manufacturer a few years ago but can't find it now

My son has a Remington 870 Compact Express 20ga. Like most pump shotguns, the barrel comes off quite easily. Being the compact version, it has a short barrel, and 20ga is lighter. You can also get the same shotgun in 12ga.

What you want is an H&R or NEF Pardner, in the rare "Survival" configuration. They came with a short barrel, were easily taken down with underbarrel screw, and had a reasonably tough stainless nickel finish. I have not seen one for sale in many years. Back in the day, I had one, took the crappy "survival" stock off and put a proper plastic buttstock on it. The best snowshoe hare gun ever, I think.

How about something like this .... not a takedown .... but a pretty compact package ... and non-restricted .... 14" barrel ... and 5+1 capacity ....

You can take the barrel of say a 870 Rem, but you still have the mag tube not really a take down .
The model 12 is a take down, shortest I know of is 18 in.
You can buy a over/ under short barrel, something or other, but it is stupid amount of money for what you get.
There are 12 pumps out there down to 8.5 in barrel, 12 in is a way better choice.
As far as your norinco opening, maybe the spring is buggered, or the latch is worn.

Yeah that's pretty much my findings. So far the best option is either one of the churchill 12" shotguns or maybe get a model 12 and make a new barrel for it.im pretty sure I can fix the Norinco by building up the latch and filing it to fit and I'll do that anyway, I'm just trying to buy a new gun haha

I have a Stoeger coach gun that I use mainly for small game hunting. Not a pump action, but it breaks down in seconds. When broken down the barrels are the longest part (20 inches).

I use a 12.5" barreled canuck regulator with birds head grip. Its 4+1. 26.5" oal and rides in a scabbard on my hip or pack. Even with the side saddle mounted. With good practise the birds head gripped guns are easy to use

I have a 20ga kodiak it's got a 13" barrel and 4+1 capacity that I got from Canada Ammo for $300, It's not a takedown per say but its only like 5lbs and 33" long and easily straps to the side of a pack

Most of these pump action shortguns have barrels that barely extend beyond the magazine tube. Taking off the barrel only reduces the overall length slightly.
Only way that taking down a short barreled pumpgun would result in a very compact package would be if the gun breaks in half, like an old 520 Stevens.

So far I'm leaning towards the Canuck Regulator. It's not a takedown but with the short grip I can make it work and it has a regular stock too for normal shooting

So far I’m very satisfied with mine and it has over 3k thru it. Mostly birdshot but at least 250 slugs + 250 00 buckshot.

Great little package, points and shoot very easily and comes with chokes (mobile). The wood version marks easily, the wood looks good but the finish is very weak. I’d grab the synthetic version if I had to buy again, but the wood does look good.

My Canuck has been perfect, and gets so much use, I sold my last Mossberg! No difference in accuracy, but the Canuck was smoother and 10x easier to disassemble and clean!! You can buy a nice top folder stock for them from Bullseye. Very compact.
