Varget

Better off looking for other options. You could back order it somewhere and wait, but at this rate, it’ll be $500 for an 8lb jug. Two years ago I bought 16lbs of varget and 16lbs of h4350 from cabelas of all places for less than $300 per 8lb jug. The rules of inflation and global manufacturing costs don’t apply here.
Pick something available for around $50 a pound and buy all you can find.

Take a look at Canada Ammo. I too use Varget but decided to find something different. I bought their 5lb D4895. Works amazing in my 308, haven't tested it on 223 yet. $159 for 5lbs but just checked and seems they only have 1lb-ders for $39.99, still a good price.

I used to keep always 24 pounds of it ahead of me.
Just opened my last 8 pound jug this morning, will stretch it as I now use H4350 for the 6.5, but by 2022 I will have to find a VihtaVuori alternative to Varget!

You better buy that Vihta powder now, in a year it’ll be hard to find and expensive.

.308 I have less of an attachment to it, I’ll shoot what works when the time comes.
It’s a guest rifle and Petawawa rifle (since they don’t approve of 6.5) so it doesn’t get the high round count anymore.

My 2x 6.5x47s I love them and use them every week.
Down to 27Lbs of H4350 and hawking for more!

N140 is not cheap but much more available than Varget. Cheap powders is probably something of the past as so many new reloaders appeared in the US with the ammo shortage. I have backup loads with N140 as accurate as my varget pet load, but I get slower MV. I am also in development for another backup with IMR 4166.

Varget is still the best IMHO but one needs to stock it high and have backups.

Vargets supposed temperature stability is irrelevant to me as the lots are not consistent.

Good to know!! What would be your choice of powder for 9.3x62 with 286gr bullets, that is not affected by temperature changes?

I’d use a magnum primer and whatever powder shoots well. 4895/varget/RL 15.

Temp effects on powder won’t matter much within the range of a 9.3x62 imo.

Message Whynot? For what works in 9.3x62 up here
Ted is my neighbour and new friend... he sold me a bunch of stuff to get me started in reloading and even gifted me a loaf of his hunter bread!! A real gentleman!! Just waiting on the reloading kit and dies to show up and I will use what I got from him, but I’m just asking around what would and wouldn’t work for when I ran out of the stuff I have!! Nice bison you got, we didn’t get a moose this year and so we bought a skidoo and I made some ramps and I should be done with making a skimmer today or tomorrow!! Hope we can get a small bison!! Thank you

I do have a pound of H4895 and a pound of IMR4064 that I will start with! I think the H4895 is actually temperature insensitive!!
