Cooper fouling removal

JB for really tough stuff.

Barnes as the fastest off the shelf product that will get into the pitted military barrels.

Janitorial grade ammonia (concentrated stuff) you must use outside. wipe in, wipe copper out.

Use any powder solvent first to cut through the soot.

A 1 gallon jug is around $15 and will last you and all your friends several lifetimes.

Zep supply is where I got mine.

I also like Sweet's for tough jobs, but a well cared for barrel usually does not require that harsh a copper remover. As Guntech mentioned, JB's is excellent, particularly for the buildup of hard carbon/copper in the throat of a rifle. CR10 is good, but IMHO, not quite as good as Sweets. Neither Sweets nor CR10 should be left in a barrel too long. Regards, Eagleye.

Wipeout uses MEA. Sometimes referred to as "odorless ammonia" It won't eat steel, as ammonia will, if left too long.

Ammonia (any kind) will not eat steel... the problem is if it is left too long, it drys up... and when that happens it leaves the bore so clean and dry it is easily attacked by the moisture in the air. Wipe-Out works well (you can leave it as long as you like) because it has additives that prevent rusting ...

For storage after cleaning with ammonia dry patch and then swab the bore with several patches using rubbing alcohol; this will dissolve any remaining ammonia. Then lightly oil the bore.

sweets 7.62 does an awesome job, have to rinse it with solvent after. not sure if you should use it on stainless though. stainless steel and ammonia don't mix too well.

Ammonia seems to attack the nickle in SOME stainless steels if left in contact for a longer time period. I'm not sure about rifle barrel stainless (414, I believe), but I have seen the effects on some stainless, it leaves the surface "frosted" after it has been given some time to work. The 15-40 minutes it takes to clean out a barrel should not be an issue, though. Regards, Eagleye.

Outers electronic foul out

Use the Outers electronic foul out but they are $140, I haven't used any of the foaming bore cleaners but Extereme Copper melt is the best that I have found if you can get it. A close second would be Barnes CR-10, Some other good products are Butche's Bore Shine, G96 copper remover, Shooters choice copper cleaner, The Hoppe's is great stuff but for copper removal like you are talking it will take weeks of soaking it over night with wet patches.

I like Sweets BUT had some interesting experience with Sweets 7.62 many years ago and now use boiling water to wash it out of the chamber and barrel thoroughly after I use it. It sure does get copper out quick! And may have some residual effect on your barrel if not completely removed after use.. promptly.

Naturally after the boiling water you need to retreat the metal with an appropriate rust preventative (oil) to protect from moisture/rust...
