There are a very few available, but if they get this project to fly, they will need some "buy-in" partnerships from the big bullet manufacturers... I am sure we will hear about a few new offerings in the coming months. I couldn't give a rats azz... I would shoot it with 150's and milk it for shorter range trajectory... I'm not into LR shooting on game, nothing against it for the well practiced, just prefer to get closer whenever possible... and it is usually possible.
Just jumping on the bandwagon with the 27 nosler and 277 sig fury. .277 is a hole in the market get in early make new modern cartridges for people to buy. If they have success revamping the 270 into new high BC short action fast twist rifle platforms like the 6.5cm did with the 260 you will see others follow. Just my 2 cents

The new offering is well, something that didnt really need to be invented (imo) but all those gun writer guys would be outta job if someone didnt create something new.

Interesting to see the cartridge development from the major companies over the last 20 or so years. (There are lots of proprietary rifle makers/cartridge makers but hard to keep track of them!)
The obsolete belt is pretty much gone, even WBY ditched it with their 6.5 RPM.
New cartridges like the RUMs tried to make inroads by the traditional although unimaginative method of case capacity but were supplanted by more efficient designs like the WSM's and now cartridge design has been leaning towards optimizing efficiency via case design paired with newly deigned bullets and different twist rates.
Along the way many didn't hack it for one reason or another. The RUM's are pretty much dead, the 7SAUM is more popular now than when it was introduced but the 300 SAUM is done. The 300WSM was a big success as was the 375 Ruger. The 270 WSM seems to be doing well. All the WSSM's are gone. The 65 Creed became one of the most popular cartridges around, with broad appeal to target/precision shooters and hunters alike. Not surprising, as it fully embraced the "new way" of optimization, and it appears this new cartridge is talking the same route.
With a name like the 6.8 Western and short magnum performance I am guessing that this is going to geared mostly towards hunters rather than precision shooters and intends to compete with older cartridges like the 7 RM as well as new ones like the 6.5 PRC.
It will be interesting to see what rifles Winchester ends up offering for this new cartridge, perhaps they have a new style of rifle they are going to pair with it.

Another year waiting to see if Winchester will bring back the LH M70s, another year that hope is dashed. Guess I'll be sticking with the ol .270 and 30.06. Interested to see what the announcement will be though! I should learn to shoot the "right" way so I can at least get hyped up over these announcements haha!
