Hi folks. I am fairly new to rifle reloading and am having a hard time to find 30-30 bullets at a reasonable price. I have checked most of the site sponsors and very few even have flat nose or round nose bullets. Where are you folks getting them, or is 30-30 not a good round to reload for? I have found a lot of supplies for my 270 and just about everything else I shoot for. I would have thought that a fairly simple round like the 30-30 would be cheap to reload.

You pretty much have to cast or buy lead cast for 30-30 if you want to shoot it a lot for cheap. Almost everything easily available is a bullet designed for hunting.
I have a 32 winchester special that I like to cast and powder coat for but obviously it's not for everyone.

.30-30 hunting bullets just aren't cheap. I bought 1k of Berry's 150gr plated bullets for plinking with the .30-30. That or cast are about your only options for cheap. Shotgun powders are your friend for more cost savings.

Have you tried the 150 plated bullets in 30-30?

I have serveral thousand of them and find they have to be loaded quite mild to shoot just fair.

Yes, I've loaded a few hundred. I tried reduced H4895 loads but settled on Red Dot. I found a Lyman recipe for 151gr cast in .30-30 calling for 6.8 to 9 grs Red Dot. I worked up to 9 and my '60s vintage 336 was happily printing groups around an inch at 50 yds. The H4895 loads were dirty and grouped around 2 to 2.5" but I didn't spend a great deal of time on development. Velocity is quite low, Lyman suggests 1481 fps @ 9.0 grs. I haven't chrono'd this load myself.

My experience was similar. I tried to load moderate velocity with 4895 and results were terrible.

I load the Berry’s 150 with 32 gr. Of 748 in my 30 30 and 303 savage they both shoot well at 100 metres although they are going a bit faster than recommended
