Just got a sweet deal on the CZ 457?

:HR: Dayyum! A 457 MTR for less than $700 ain't too shabby at all. Tenda has a big CZ sale on right now and you can grab a 457 Lux for less than $650, but with the match barrel on the MTR, that's a hell of a deal! :dancingbanana:

I picked up a 20” Mtr last week from a site sponsor for $650 but they sold out in hours and pulled the add..

Grabbed a couple 10 round plastic mags and a cz brand 25 moa rail from tesro but they are sold out now. I think they still have 0moa rails.

These seem to be hot stuff this month. tesro was the only 10 round mags I could find last week.

What are people using for rods? My .22 rod does not quite fit down the barrel. (Fits down my 10/22) I think the match barrel is slightly tighter. Do I need a 17hr rod with a 22 brush?...

I've spent allot on ProShot rods (from Nordic) as well as bore guides....still have a bunch of Dewey rods..and honestly, that stuff mostly sits unused. I've always thought the pull-through systems (nylon cord) were a little easier on my nerves, and since I've grown to sort of dislike the cleaning process...it's also allot faster. :)

The felt plugs with the brass in them are really key, and not that cheap considering I use several per cleaning session. Proper solvents/oils are key too, but I used nothing but Hoppe's forever...and never had issues. (have multiple varieties now) Not going to ever suggest that this is better than a proper rod/guide/brushes/jags etc...it's probably not. BUT, I always clean the same day I shoot...and often don't have the energy/inclination to do it the "proper" way, in spite of what I have invested in the gear to do it.

I have myself convinced that if you have the same level of discipline using the PatchWorm kit, the results are every bit as good. I make sure the cord is wiped clean before it goes back down the bore, which means a wipe-down before every pass.

If your .22 cal rod, which should be less than .22" in diameter, is too large, the next best choice for a .22 rimfire is a .20 cal rod.

It bears repeating that whenever a rod approaches a rifle, the latter needs protection in the form of a bore guide. In other words, always use protection.

All CZ .22LR bores are by law made to CIP specifications. They are no tighter than .22LR bores made by rifle manufacturers in other countries that follow CIP specs, including those in Germany and most other European countries. Barrels made by rifle manufacturers that follow SAAMI specifications, which include those in North America, have different bore dimensions.

For easy comparison, CIP bores are 5.38mm or .212" in diameter. SAAMI specs call for bores that are 5.51mm or .217".

The chart below is from CZ.

Pretty sweet deal. I got one of the 16" 457 MTR from PR too. With the free shipping it ended up being a bit less than the 20" I missed out on last week.
The magwedge Picatinny fits fine on the 457, with the only difference is the opening is slightly offset vs the 455 for which it's designed. Pretty sure magwedge is a site sponsor.

Is there any difference between 16 and 20" barrels on a 22lr in terms of accuracy ? Any reason to pick one over the other ?

Missed the free shipping Damn it!
16 should be stiffer although on a 22 that probably doesn't matter. I expect velocity to be the same.

Mine showed up today.......she is a beauty!
Prophet River is a great dealer........not enough good to say about this group of people.
Look forward to more dealings with them.......thanks :)

I'm using a Vortex diamond back tactical in 6x24 great so far out to 300 yards ringing steel. It's mounted on a 25 moa cz rail with medium high vortex rings

Which rings? Medium - high? Isn’t it one or the other?... Do you have pics of the scope clearance ? I have the same scope and rail in the mail but I have a set of low and medium rings to try. Hopefully don’t need a high.

Sorry for the confusion they are medium height vortex tactical rings. Sorry cant post a pic but it clears the barrel by 5 mm . Also it seems to really like sk standard plus and rifle match, tried cci sv and it was not as good when stretching it out. The trigger adjustment range is nice and helps getting it down to a nice release . As for cleaning I use .17 rod with .17 jag ,.204 plastic bore brush and .204 bore mop, but most of my cleaning is done with a vfg pocket cleaning kit and felt plugs for .22lr. I have found a boresnake in .204 does a really nice job for a quick cleaning and no fear of damaging anything if you are testing ammo or need to give it a quick clean before you put it away, avoid .22lr boresnake they are way too tight . The bolt was a little tight on the pull but a little bolt grease and time the bolt drops straight back when you lift the rifle up. Sorry for the long winded post any other question feel free to pm me I have gone down the rabbit hole on chasing that tiny .22lr out to ranges I thought I would never do with .22lr

And your running the 16.5” MTR? New into this precision rim fire game but Iam diving in head first and fast.
Also can anyone measure for me with callipers the size of the barrel right before the thread protector.

I have a 20" barrel on my cz 457 mtr and would much rather have a 16" if anyone is interested in trading up.

As well , also if anyone knows where to get dip 25 moa rail in Canada ? I understand it's shorter than the area 419/MDT rail
