Schmidt and Bender Klassik - cheaper in Canada than the US??

Picked one of these up after seeing a buddies. Looks like I grabbed the last one, but they were $1640+ from Tenda, closeout prices I think. 3-12 x 50 S&B Hungaria with illumination. This is my new tikka superlite in 22-250. Online searches show these scopes are still running $1800+ US. Not much more $$ than a new VX-5HD, and the back up to my other 22-250 superlite with a VX6. The eyebox is maybe a little less friendly, and I don't really get the FFP scope with a duplex reticle, but the glass is great. 22 ounces is 2-3 ounces heavier than my VX6 x 44. Since when do we ever get a better deal than they do in the USA?

You guys know there are

German made Schmidt and Hungarian made Schmidt ......

The main difference is in the quality of coating

of course Schmidt denies it but everybody knows

Variations aside, my comments on the better Canadian price, were in comparison to the same (Hungarian) model.

At the current Canadian price Comparing the glass and quality to my vx6, the Schmidt appears to be a bargain. Hungarian or not, when was the last time you saw a post saying that Schmidt’s don’t track?
 
The only difference i see between the German and the Hungarian is about shooting at night ( in legal time ). The Hungarian is inferior to the German not much but enough to notice. Function or tracking, cant see a difference. Inexpensive for a top shelf.

we had one battue scope while still in france made in west germany or germany and i dealt with the factory directly. that was not a pleasant experience as the warranty was only 30 years in those days for parts and 5 years for man work. scope was 6 years old. i contacted them and sure they were able to fix it but i had to pay for it and it was not free. needless to say that scope was sold and never again i will own sb product.
 
My personal experience with S&B been stellar, Clay sold me a Swarzoski 5X25X52, this one is impressive, it run beside the S&B.
 
I have over a dozen Schmidt’s.

built like a panzer

My Russian buddy once said to me before a bear hunt “if you miss , hit it with your Schmidt and Bender

there is a waiting list in zzee fatherland for virtually all their German made lines, now we know where the Hungarian lines ended up ........

Maybe so, but if it was German, it wouldn’t be $1600, and it wouldn’t be on MY gun. You guys are hilarious. The f*$kin S&B crossfire/diamondback

For a few bucks more than a viper pst, some better quality glass.

Again, the topic of the tread was that these are about 40% more in the US. How many optics do you see that on lately?

Quite frequently with European products. Anschutz & Pardini are the two I'm most familiar with and we get much better prices than the US does once you factor conversion. Anschutz in particular is much less expensive up here.

used to be a joke but now you have the last laugh.

I have more than a few for F class

I have 2 new builds coming for BILTONG harvesting which I do yearly

for every shot I miss I pay USD 200 and I will be putting IOR on them

for 90% of my scope firearms

my scope either cost about the same or more than the firearm itself .

If we have to cross the bridge, we will wait to get to the river.
It's very unlikely that these top shelves scopes need service.

Out of 25 scopes i owned in the last 10 years only one needed service for a scratch inside the lens A Sightron 5X50X60.
If you avoid many makes, you will avoid warranty claim. 1+1=2.
 
there is some that are easier to deal with than other. than is only what i said. im coming from europe so i ve got a good idea about high end scope. i know for myself which brand to avoid and that is related to my experiences.

the conditions of hunting and shooting are not the same where i am that what im used to be and hunt. what works for me may not works for you and that is great.

Fair enough. By keeping a standard of quality, problems are seldom.
 
I can tell you, from my experience, paying more certainly doesn't always equate to quality and reliability. I literally paid for that mistake. You need to do your research and take your time before making a decision on any product. I also learned, the hard way, not to buy into the hype. The other reality is that there's the law of diminishing returns... but that's a whole different conversation.
