Hi to all
My adult youngest son was asking me about shotguns the other day and we wound up going through the safe for a bit. I took my almost new (150 or so rounds) 870 Express out and showed him a few things; naturally we both cleared the SG before anything else.
Cycled normally and he decided it was what he wanted, and we had a 12 Gauge snap cap in place for our little discussion. When I cleared it again to return it to the safe, I felt the fore end hesitate for a minute and then open normally. One piece of plastic/nylon fell out of the ejection port.
Aw crap...
Anyway, I opened the action up and removed the trigger group, Could not find anything that looked like a piece had broken off of. Looked at the snap cap; nope. Looked at the other snap caps thinking this piece might have broken off from one of them, and decided to fall out later. Nope.
Back to the trigger group with a spark plug viewer (magnifier); still nope.
Pulled the aftermarket ATI pistol grip stock off, and the second piece fell onto the floor. OK...
The two pieces match, and it sort of looks like a bushing or detent at the end of a spring, for example. About 5/16 or 3/8 inch diameter, with ragged edges like it was the end of a tube or bushing of some kind.
So after the biggest part of an hour looking at everything (including the stock) I see no indication of what this might be. Watched a couple of 870 trigger group videos looking for anything that might resemble these bits. Nope.
Anybody got any good ideas???
