I wish someone introduced me to Walther years ago

I think Winz and Jimbo14 sort of answered my question. I think the lack of after market support appears to be a major factor. The other thing I will be changing are the sights to trijicon HD. Again Walther nailed it with it ease of removal. No sight pusher tool needed for the rear sight on the PPQ series.

They are right BUT unless you like tinkering with your gun or are a high end user those issues tend to fall to the background. I have both the Match PPQ and the M2 5". The latter was bought slightly used and developed a habit of going full auto. Not sure the previous owner might have played with the sear. In any event I paid the repair boys to have the sear assembly replaced and the gun has performed perfectly since.

The guns come with a stepped chamber which I think accounts for their accuracy reputation. Both the Match and the M2 have excellent triggers. Both of mine came with advertised 5.6lb triggers with a 1/10th" reset. I wish I had the reflexes to maximize the guns performance. I added green flourescent paint to the front sight on the M2 and for IDPA the gun from the factory doesn't need much tinkering. I have an Optic on the Match. It may come off this year to allow me to use the Match with the irons. I am more accurate with the Optic but slower using it in matches. Just me not the Optic.

I'll likely continue in SSP using the Match/M2 combo despite really wanting to compete with my Ruger MC in 10 MM. Choices!

To the OP you got a great gun to play the games with. If guys beat you it won't be due to their equipment. Go play and have fun.

Traded my P99 for a 92FS Inox years ago. Love the Beretta but should have kept the Walther as well. I've decided to purchase the PPQ M2 as my 1st striker sometime this month.

Canuck44 thanks for the info. On your M2 did you change up your factory sights or did you just add the paint to the original front polymer one.
No I left the sights alone. I just applied a coat of white flourescent paint the a coat of now green flourescent paint. the front sight jumps out at ya in daylight. Over the years I have spent my share of new FO sights for my guns. I find the green flourescent paint works just as well for me as do the FO with no additional cost and the fixed factory sight is more durable.

Enjoy your shooter.

Happy New Year to you and your family

Thanks again Bob. Happy New Year to you as well.

I seen handled a friend's P99. Not impressed. It only fed fired ejected 124 grain ammo. Forget 147! It got stuck inside the chamber because of its tiny throat. Also it was very easy to eject the magazine while shooting. Another friend had his P22 slide come apart while shooting! Good thing he was wearing shooting glasses! Underwhelming design(s) in comparison to what they used to build. Maybe it's the Umarex influence? Plastic junk using airgun-like cheap materials.

Well my PPQ M2 5 inch was delivered to my door yesterday. I cant believe the trigger in this gun. Very smooth and crisp. The reset is probably the shortest of any I have ever shot or owned. Cant wait to get it to the range. Due to the lockdown in Ontario I am not sure when that will be.

I have had a P99 in 9mm since 2006, and I have no intention to sell it. Many others have come and gone. I bought a CZ-75 SP-01 to get into competitive shooting and ended up using my P99 for my Black Badge Course (having 1000's more rounds through the P99 was a definite contributing factor). The SP-01 has now been replaced by a Q5 Match SF. I have sold all but one of the Glocks I bought after the P99 (as a comparison), and that's only because it's a G21 in .45ACP and I have yet to replace it with a PPQ 45. I simply prefer the Walther over the other brands, for many of the reasons the other posters have mentioned, and my own.

The after market for the Glocks is vastly superior as are the custom options, which is why it has been so successful, along with their solid reliability. Glocks and M&P's are sold in large numbers due to their price points and reputation. Walther has a deeper history, but is a handgun you buy and shoot, not buy, shoot, modify, customize and shoot more. Just a few of the reasons it may not be as popular.

Yes. Years ago when real firearms came in walnut & blued steel. And not plastic & alloy.

They still make them. The problem is the steel guns are expensive to make and frankly are not as popular as the polymer guns for a lot of good reasons. Price is one of them but not the main one. Weight, and mag capacity are the two major reasons INHO and I am sure there are others.

Just bought my second PPQ M1. This one will be a keeper.

No difference in the trigger between the M1 and M2, and the mag paddle release wins hands-down. I'm ambidextrous, so the PPQ M1 fits me to a "T".

Cheers,

Bill

Jetfixer I think you are correct. Very little if anything needs to be done to a Walther. If my finances allow it at some point I would like to get a Walther Q5 SF. There are certain guns in your collection that you will always keep and the Walther is one of them. Guns are like cars everyone has their likes and dislikes.

Get Metal sights if the gun doesn't have them. The Plastic Front sight on P99/PPQ can get material abraded from drawing from the holster.

Thanks Gundoggy. Just out of curiosity what sights do you have. I have the Trijicon XR HD on one of my other guns and was contemplating changing them.

How many thousands of draws does it take for this to happen?

Depends on the holster you use. My P99 had the corner of the plastic front sight rounded from friction with sight channel of a tightly boned leather holster. This might not happen if you are using a kydex holster with wider channel, I've always just switched to Trijicon or Meprolight sights after my experience. PPQ depending on where it comes from may already have metal sights. A ppq I ordered from USA had plastic sights.

I think they all come with polymer sights from the factory. This doesn't mean an importer might change them etc. I use a Kydex holster and there is no wear on my sights yet. I painted my M2 sights green fluorescent. Seems to work just as good as my FO front sight on my PPQ Match.

Interesting though and I will watch for wear.
