Mag na port

I doubt SIR did it, I am pretty sure they had Magna-Na-Port Canada do it... he was doing it for everyone in Canada until illness took over and he closed.

Last time I spoke to the lady at MagNaPort,w which was last year, she told me that there was not anyone in Canada doing it anymore. She did say that I could bring down what I needed to Michigan and they could probably get it done while I waited, mind you a form6 would be needed.

Funny cause I mailed the gun to SIR .Maybe they sent it out from there to be done? Early 80's

That's what all dealers used to do, all across Canada ... take in jobs for Mag-Na-Porting and mail them in and get a small discount for handling it.

He also did electroless nickel plating. And done very well..

Magna Port used to be right next door to SIR years ago when they were still on Burrows ave. in Winnipeg. They could have just walked next door to drop the gun off at Magna Port. SIR moved to the Ellice and Empress location around 1988-89 and moved twice more after that. Haven’t heard much more about Magna Port since the mid nineties.

Is there something you didn’t like about Magnaporting?

I had it on my winchester 458 magnum
not noisy. keep the muzzle down and take a bit of the recoil off. love it
the only thing that it did but was not a big deal it left carbon on my front sight ..... easy to wipe of

bought the new version of the winchester safari express in 458 also

... And get a federal gunsmithing license and make sure all the employees have a PAL ...

Why would that need to be, provided of course, only the Barrel was brought in? And, of course, the barrel itself is not a Prohib Item, for being too short.

Anyone with an EDM machine can cut a port in the barrel, only someone licensed to do so can call it "Magnaporting".

Given the detail available with wire EDM, a fella could do a lot of different stuff. Limited only by imagination and wallet thickness!

All the rifles I had done, he wanted the action on the barrel for proper indexing of the ports...

I was simply pointing out if a machine shop is going to work on firearms, they fall into the same licensing requirements as the rest of us...

A wire fed EDM would be a disaster attempting to accomplish a MagnaPort in a barrel.

Plunge EDM would be the correct machine for the task.

I've tried a couple MagnaPort'd barrels in past decades-
I'll pass

A rough barrel bore will not tear up jackets as bad as a MagnaPort'd Bbl.
