Leupold releases DeltaPoint Pro Micro

I don't link it and I'm a huge fan of my DPP+Glock combo which I prefer even more than the RMR setup.
I think the new model is a step backward.

Yeah, but there’s still a stupid plate between the slide and the gun. All you get is low bore axis and cheap co-witness.

It appears to sit flush with the top of the slide. There is a piece that goes into the dovetail for the rear sight which the rest of the dot bolts to, but I don't see there being any plate between the optic and slide?

I think this new model is intended for a different application than a DPP.

Exactly. If you've already got your slide milled, then this is probably not for you. This seems to be for people with no other means to mount a red dot who would otherwise be stuck with irons as their only option.

It’s equivalent to a plate to me, the sight attaches to the dovetail piece which attaches to the slide. Maybe someone will torture test it, but I think direct milling and attachment is much better for a defensive gun.

I feel like it would be really hard to find the dot. Like the concept though.

That was my first impression too, but now I'm not so sure. The tube is so long and narrow you probably can't see through it very well unless its pointed straight, and it appears that you can find it pretty quickly if you are looking for the front sight through it.

I would love to try one. Probably wouldn't buy one, too niche, but it would be cool to see how functional (or not) it is.

When many (most?) folks who are used to shooting with irons first try an optic, they have real trouble finding the dot. They are accustomed to sighting right down the top of the slide, where the sights are.
With this optic, I think that the same approach would work, and it would be very fast to pick up the dot.
I suspect that this unit would be most at home on a carry pistol. It is small, low and compact.

This optic gives you three different options for sighting. It has a standard style rear iron sight, the tube can be used like a ghost ring for close quarters where you need quick acquisition, and a red dot. It’s a unique piece of kit that wasn’t designed for everyone. I don’t think it has a place in competition where you want your dot fast. But in a self defence situation it would give you the quick ghost ring to place rounds in a general target then get a dot for precise rounds. It requires no mods to the slide which is nice and the battery can be changed without removing the sight so no loss of zero. The only thing I would like to see in the next gen is to put the battery compartment directly behind the slide vertically so it doesn’t stick out quite so much. OWB shouldn’t be a problem but IWB especially AIWB that battery would dig into your gut.

Colion Noir just dropped a video on this. He claims trying to find the dot is quite easy, you just try to shoot it like you would an iron sighted gun and the dot appears for you.
