Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

Isn't an LMG supposed to just spray rounds at a wall of charging enemies? I mean, you're not sniping with the thing, right? I'm thinking more along the lines of Tom Cruise in Taps from the second-storey window lmao

VW Beetles were designed to make grocery runs. But that doesnt keep individuals from still making novel and relatively capable dune buggies out of them!

True, but a longer, heavier barrel can also make for a more accurate rifle when shot slowly :p In typical Saddam fashion, I think the Tabuk Sniper is more of guilded, exaggerated name. With the 7.62 x 39 mm rounds limitations, I'd say it was more used as a designated marksmen's rifle, as opposed to the average, slightly shorter barreled rifle. A semi-automatic Canadian Type 81 LMG could probably match the same accuracy, given it has a similar barrel profile, assuming you add an equivalent or better optic.

Thanks Murray 3-D; you were who I meant to summon with the name Three Bar D :) Would it be possible to hollow out a Type 81 LMG stock in a similar manner to the Tabruk "Sniper" DMR, or would it compromise the stock integrity too much, and said project would have to be scratch built?

Not really sure, but id gamble that it would hold up. Tho if I manage to purchase a LMG in the new year my plan will be to carve a buttstock and lower forend from a Maple blank. That way I cant get the shape super close. It should be a real simple project that will yield a nice smooth shooting plinker.

Hello, I’m looking for someone that can point me in the right direction for the best route for mounting a red dot on either my folder or fixed t-81, I haven’t decided which one I’m going to do it on haha.
I was thinking of modifying a quad rail to fit it but I just don’t like how the top dust cover wood has to be removed.
So I’m leaning towards a side rail mount. If there is someone in the gta that could help me with the side mount or do it for me and I’ll pay that would be an option also. I’m a woodworker but I’m not very confident with metal and I don’t want to screw up the t-81.
Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

hold off for a little while longer, TI has said they are getting side mounts/adapter plates etc that will use the existing pin holes/pins for mounting a red dot/scope, no need to drill/tap.

It would be nice if TI would throw us a bone with a little more info, other than "They are getting"
Certainly they must have a little more than that.

Welp with this :

A few months at least. Our latest revision had occasional issues with cases deflecting back into action so have to redesign mount to move far enough back to clear ejection port, and then design and make safety for right side since by going that back back means LH safety is covered now.
Tactical Imports

Its safe to say Tactical Import didnt go with a AK or SVD side rail setup ?? Making it a write off to my future endeavors. Possibly a shame.

I'm sure the answer is deep in this thread somewhere, but how compatible is wooden akm furniture say with a fixed stock T81? The stock looks like it needs some light profiling, foregrips looks promising and I know the handguard is too short.

There WAS a bit somewhere about how they were gonna use the hammer and trigger pin holes, which would make installation a breeze. Kind of like how some VZs mounts are installed.
Personally, I'm really more interested in the mirrored safety.

I think thats still how it will be mounting. But by their mention of the shells striking the mount and bouncing back in, that kindov implies that it isnt the very modular Russian side rail system I was hoping for. Its probably more along the lines of the Choate rails, or Pro Mag rails found on SKS rifles.

This is only an educated guess that im making tho. I could be totally wrong.

Some here will claim so. Despite that id say a VAST majority of Type 81SA rifle owners including me seem to be averaging 4-5moa.

Ive read the hype as well. Either the Type 81SA's are somehow less accurate then their Type 81-1 counterparts OR we've just been reading baseless Chinese propaganda.

Speaking on account of accuracy and references to AK accuracy. The thing is, it's incorrect to compare accuracy of AKs put together by US Bubbas with anything else. It's category of its own.
Here's the picture I got several weeks ago from my bud in Ukraine, he was asked to check if that specific AKS type 2 was good enough. It was OK. 100m, iron sights, group of 5 and group of 3. As you can see it's a decent accuracy for assault rifle. I'm not falling for absolutely stupid propaganda everyone can watch on the Kalashnikov media YouTube channel (you gotta be braindead if you fall for their "AK vs AR" comparison and how AK is superior, but that's a different topic) , anyway, AK platform in original form (as issued) has decent accuracy for such class of rifles.

As for Type 81 - again, we're comparing poorly slapped together commercial Type 81SA with original assault rifle Type 81-1? We don't have access to latter to compare. I wish we had more relaxed laws, like in Europe, where they can have converted auto. But alas...
I was checking one "relatively straight" type 81 just recently. I hear that most ppl getting 4-5 MOA, this one was not that bad. 100 yards, iron sights, in process of sighting in.

Apparently Kachin rebels consider them accurate enough to make snipers out of them

Bonus picture-challenge - " look, we can make straight rifles in the middle of the jungles, can you?"

notice the kachin KIA uses the LMG front sights on their rifles but installed backwards .... very interesting.

This may be a silly question, but how does one adjust the windage of the iron sights? Mine is shooting about 5 or 6 inches to the left and would like to get zeroed instead of holding off.

Figured I'd ask here before I go trying to drift the front sight post around!

Thanks!
