???? Where are all the sks-d's ???

I would actually dare to suggest, that the SKS-D now has more value than Type 81 (if you could find it).

While Type 81 sure is a great platform, the mags are not as readily available as the AK mags and there is virtually no aftermarket support/parts for it.
And there is the fact, that the Liberal criminal cartel in power is almost certain to add it to the list sooner rather than later.

Again...as far as a SHTF viable 7.62x39 platform, the SKS-D will be the king.

I agree with this. The SKS-d , because if it's Ak style mag release also accepts and functions with the full range of AK mags, including the drums.
"If" I did own a mint condition SKS-D....... I would not part with it for less than a T81

I'm 51 , so while I'm not "old", we were buying SKS D rifles from lever arms in Vancouver when old man Lever was still around. They had pallets of them and a group of us bought a pallet of rifles in the Buy Two for 139 each and get a free case of norinco silverbox for free. They had the M14 rifles back then and a "Family Pack" was 1100 bucks and came with a trw, hr, win and sa rifle. The good ol days LOL

I agree.

try to shoot non fmj bullet in some sks not all reliable where the t81 shines on that at least just my experience some sks d do not like some mags as well ...

I could be wrong, but I don't think the SKS was designed for anything other than FMJ.
Having said that, I did fire bunch of Wolf hollow point anmo (not a whole lot since it is expensive) through bunch of SKS rifles in the past and never had a malfunction.
As a matter of fact I can't remember if I ever had a malfunction shooting the SKS.

I have fired Prvi PSP's and Hornady SST's... Many in fact, ZERO malfunctions from a Russian SKS. The primers take a beating, but remained unpearced.

The only SKS where I experienced a malfunction (not due to a pinned mag affecting follower pivot point) was on an SKS-D... which was a feeding issue from the magazine.

They are kind of cool in their own way, but I would not trust my life to one

Would have to disagree on the shtf scenario,
If things went bad lots of better options like my colt 6933.
When things go that bad there is no such thing as restricted or prohibited

You would have to confirm with Murray 3-D or another Type 81 AK mag modifier, but I believe the AK mag mods were minor, and should not prevent the mags use in an SKS-D when modified. A forum vendor also shot video of their pinned AK drums working fine in the Type 81 LMG. They're still LMG blued units available at TI from the latest shipment. Good luck with whatever you go for!

AK Mags work fine from my experience. The hold open on last shot doesn't work, but other than that, the AK mags work fine.

When i bought the pair of SKS-D both came with one 30 rounds steel AK mags but i lost them, i will use my LMG81 mag if i shoot mine.

What I meant to ask, would AK mags modified to work in a Type 81 still work in an SMS d or Valmet?

I remember seeing the sks D for sale many years ago . but when you could go ground hog hunting with an AR why would I want to buy one of those . and the time I walked into Lebarons and this rifle was sitting up against the counter and a guy was cashing out . I said what kind of rifle is that ? he said it's a Polish Nagant $75 dollars . I said Polish ?? and if I had known I would have bought 10 of them.

I believe they where originally imported by International Firearms in Montreal starting in the 1980's. That is when I bought 3 from them from that company.
Glad I kept one, with all the stuff that came with them . Not a great gun, but with the OIC Gun Ban , it can be a fun shooter to have? I think I paid $300. then ???

What I meant was with the OIC all the previously restricted stuff might be gone in little over a year from now.
If the SHTF scenario happens now, my restricted/prohibited VZ58 is THE go to platform.

I've been looking for an sks-d for some time now, they used to pop up periodically! Any reason they just seemed to have disappeared?
Any dealers around that have any?

Dude there was never many of them to start with and the wholly grail was the sks in .223 which was crap and wouldn’t function and I,ve only seen one of them in over thirty years. —Dieseldog!
