People on the EE need to get real with their prices of guns, rifles especially. Guys gotta realize what the gun itself is actually worth. Not what it's worth TO THEM. Big difference between those two prices people. Your browning blr that looks like it went through both world wars and a car crash for example, is not worth any more than $500, not even that much.

If your gun looks mint and only fired a box I can understand it fetching almost new price.

But let's step into the real world where everything should be priced accordingly, not according to what it's worth to you.

My rifle is priceless to me, in reality it's a $475-$525 dollar rifle with the mileage on it.

Free market. It will sell or not sell, up to the seller. Folks that price high don't really want to sell.

If they get their asking price, then that was the market rate.

People can ask whatever they want. Absolutely no point #####ing about someone else business. Sometimes it sucks when its something you want. Make an offer is all you can do.
Edit - its been a reality check to many how the prices of most firearms have gone up in the last 5 years. Hell,(to me) it doesnt seem that long ago you could buy a decent Chevelle for a few thousand dollars

High prices here seem to be a CGN thing compared to other forums. On one of the bike forums I frequent, guys sell their parts off very reasonably, eg, full set of Ultra Classic gauges from a year old bike for $125.00 US$

Actually, there is no obligation to get real.
His junk, his price.
Your junk is the only item that you get to dictate price

If there's an out of production gun in mint shape that I really want, price is no object.

But 900 bucks for a .22 LR. Luger pot metal clone, is a bit much. Glad I don't want one.

If someone's asking price is too high just move on; It really is that easy.

There is no law stating that someone has to cater to your unrealistic sense of entitlement.

If this thread was merged with the lowballer thread I think the earth's magnetic field would reverse.

People put it up for how much they'll let it go for. I doubt most have the intention of actually selling it.

A lighter reason could be their wife said to sell their guns, so if they put them up for crazy prices, they get to keep them!

Free market, and I have lots of fun with people offering rifles more expensive than the dealers, zev pistols bought at huge discount at full price, not sure if someone is trying to make a living out of it or just bragging later for friends how clever they are but again, you don’t need to buy anything.

That's where you're completely wrong. In a free country someone can sell what they own for exactly what is worth to them. A Honus Wagner baseball card is worth about $0.0001 worth of paper? Someone bought it for north of $3,000,000. Because that's how much it was worth to him.

Seems silly to complain about this. They have their price, I have mine. If their asking is within distance of my offer then we negotiate; maybe it works out, maybe not. The only thing that irritates me is when sellers try to justify their asking price by including the taxes they had to pay. It's not my fault you elected people who gave you a 15% sales tax while I'm paying 5%. Taxes are between you and your elected leadership.
