If this cartridge is coming soon, how long of a lag time will there be before a guy can go pull the trigger on one?

I'm going to pass on this one, for at least a few years until more bullet options become available

I'd imagine Winchester and Browning rifles and Winchester ammo will hit the shelves 3rd quarter 2021

6.8 Western, the new king of 270s!

LOL! My situation is my kids are old enough to hunt now and so I'm shopping for myself. I've always shot .270 win and was actually leaning towards getting a new one. I have about 1000 different .277 bullets in 110 gr, 130 gr, 150 gr, and 160 gr. If I can use them in my new rifle i can't see any reason to change from the .277 platform. The other one I was considering if I cahnged it up is the 28 nosler but im hearing brass and bullets are expensive.
I like the idea of hunting rifle I can just point and shoot out to 400 yards without holding over. this 6.8 is fitting the jig for me right now

If Winchester is the only one making brass for the 6.8, it won't be cheap either...wsm brass however can be had for next to nothing.

yes, .270 wsm does interest me. I'm led to believe its only a couple hundred FPS more than .270 win so not really worth the change. How do they feed? I've heard that can be ####ty as well but I dont really know, just internet research...

If you have been served well by the .270, makes sense to stick with it. Slender case that feeds well, abundantly available components, and gives an extra round in the mag.

Unless you need fast twist and long bullets to kill stuff at 800 yds...:)

I have owned a Savage 270 WSM. It fed perfect and I could fit 3 rounds in the mag. I have also built a 35 WSM on a Savage action and it also feeds perfect. I find that these cartridges need you to load to near max/max pressure to shoot their best groups. They really like running that fine. The factory stuff is loaded pretty hot too.

Most recent I picked up Browning BAR (used) in 300 WSM and it too feeds and cycles perfect.

The brass is available everywhere and pretty cheap. I really liked my 270 WSM but got bored and moved on, haha. Most recently got into the 6.5 PRC and so far have been extremely happy with the results. Lapua is also making brass for it this year which is great as Lapua does not make any WSM brass.
