Hello i was browsing around the IPSC Global village and noticed a number of people have said their SP01 slide stops are breaking between 5000-8000 rounds.

Has anyone had this type of failure.
What can be done to correct it.

I have not had this type of failure, but I could see it happening if I used factory ammo and low weight recoil spring. Am I correct by saying that using a low weight recoil spring and higher PF ammo may cause extreme wear on the slide stop? (onthe CZ)

Isn't using the slide stop vs. 'slingshot' harder on the slide stop also?

I'm not saying the gun design should not be able to withstand using the slide stop, but in IPSC, and typically, I slingshot. I use the slide stop on occasion, mostly just to confirm it still functions.

I've heard the stop on the SPO1 can fail, but it is rarer than you think. One of the pins in the hammer/trigger is prone to breakage too (after more than 10,000 rnds).

Hah. I have 2 Shadows and I've broken 3 slide stops and one extractor in six months. My friend has 3 Shadows and has broken 3 slide stops in six months and we both shoot 130 power factor and 11 # recoil springs. I'd say it's a weak spot in the CZ's.

I haven't had a chance to dissect an SP01 yet, but it sounds to me like it could be a link-down issue. If the barrel is impacting on the frame exclusively during link-down (as it should) then there shouldn't be a problem. The slide stop should last indefinitely. If the impact is being divided between the slide stop and the frame or is exclusively on the slide stop then it would just be a matter of time. A gun smith familiar with this design should be able to sort it out for you.

I spoke with a couple of well known ipsc gunsmiths, one here in Canada and one in the US. Both said it's "common" or "not uncommon" with cz and that it is a design flaw or shortcoming. I spoke to Angus Hobdell about it and he says that he just carries a few" match only" spare slide stops so that's basically where I'm at with it......

I had one go right after mentioning to another shooter that i had 10,000 or so rounds on the gun.
It broke dead centre so i guess it was consistent in where the barrel was bearing on it and that was after a 138 or so PF load for those 10 000 rds with an 11lb recoil spring.

I've put over 2,000 rounds through mine during the past year and a bit... various PF (reloads and factory). I am using the stock recoil spring (it is stiff).

No issues YET, but perhaps I should order a spare slide stop (and maybe a trigger spring and pin and hammer pin).

Can't be too careful.

with 30k plus rounds through a 75B i replaced the slide stop once and the extractor and extractor spring once. my spo1 with 10k plus (11lb recoil spring) @ 130 pf still functions flawlessly. i do however keep a match only slide stop. the only people i know who broke trigger springs were trying to "adjust" trigger pull weight. ron

yes, adjusting sometimes bites us...LOL

If your breaking slide stops on an Sp01 try not to game it so much and put heavier recoil spring in. If not - buck up and accept it.

If everyone did that, they would have no reason to complain! :p I just bought a Shadow, and have not even fired it yet!...It works great so far!:D

If you shoot "hot" ammo and let your recoil spring go (either via wear or putting in a weaker one) it's only a matter of time.. Happened to me a couple of times with older CZs (85combat - same design)...
