Looking for most accurate load for a .22 K-Hornet in a CZ 527? Please, no responses other than those related to CZ 527s. Been reloading for 50+ years, got a good handle on this, other varmint guns ( .204, .222, .223, etc.) capable of 1/4" - 5/16" 5x100. It is NOT the bedding, scope, mounts, etc. Have worked several powders and every bullet available and this gun will not go consistent sub 5/8" no matter what. Looking for help from other 527 K-Hornet re-loaders? Love the gun, action & trigger, the thing even looks pretty. Am I expecting too much from it? Could live with consistent 1/2' 5x100.
Thank you,
Bob

I had a similar frustration once with a Brno in 22 Hornet. Tried everything.

One day I got excellent results. I pulled some rounds and found that I had accidently loaded the ammo a full 5 gr light.

Try loading down and see what happens. You may have a tight barrel.

My rifle was excellent with ammo loaded under the Start load.

That is interesting, but would severley limit the range of the cartridge. This is a "gopher gun" that spends it`s life killing gophers off of a bi-pod & a portable table. Has to be able to reach out to 200+, which it does easily now but I would like the groups to tighten up a little. I think it is a powder thing, I`ve tried lots of powders and the best results so far are with a full case ,slightly below max. and very lightly compressed load of CFE BLK. Curious as to what others have found to be the optimal powder for this cartridge?

Have you tried Hornady vMax 35 gr bullets. They really tightened up the groups in my 218bee.

I have and they were not bad, but not really any better than the 40 V-Max that I use now. Downside of the 35 is their performance in the wind, the 40 really outperforms them there.
I know lots of guys swear by `Lil-Gun but I got a lot of pressure spikes with it, I find CFE BLK at lot more consistent.

I'd be one of those guys who swear by Lil'gun very acurate in a KE. Load as much as the case will hold. I did find primers made a difference in this gun ended up using CCI small pistol. Gave the smallest groups consistant 10 in 3/4 at 100

Bob, did you try some different primers?

I`ve tried 400s & 450 Magnums as well as 205s $ 205Ms, didn`t seem to make any appreciable difference, but may be worth looking at further? The gun is super fun in a gopher patch, low muzzle blast, no recoil, can see "hits" on 15x, cheap to reload, it`s just annoying that it is the least accurate of all my varmint guns so I`m finding it a real challenge to "keep up" with the others. Maybe I`m expecting too much from it?

Bob. Mine is not a K nor a CZ but a Browning ABolt. Very pleased with Lil Gun, Federal Small Pistol primers, 40 VMax. Maybe apples and oranges but food for thought.

There's much eye appeal to these wonderful European hornets. Mini Mauser action schnable fore end svelt dimensions detachable magazine and perhaps room for two triggers.
But I think there's no impetus to change because they don't have the tiny pests North Americans are plagued with.
You got black grouse large hares and capercaillie in most of the continent. And that's pretty much it.
Perhaps some ptarmigan and artic foxes & hares in northern climes? The odd seal hunt Greenland but it seems the .222 in a Sako rules thereabouts.

maybe ?

Funny you should say that, my absolute favourite gopher killer for many years has been, and still is, a Sako A1 Varmint .222 Rem with a Leupold VX-3 6.5x20. Has accounted for literally thousands of gophers over the years.

I would try some factory ammo.

Been there, done that,my loads shoot tighter. I guess I`m just spoiled by my other varmint guns and expect this one to live up to my expectations. In all honesty, this cartrirge is the biggest reloading challenge ever. My .243 Tikka and .270 will give tighter groups than the K-Hornet, but who wants to shoot a .243 at gophers all day.

I recall standing in a patch and emptying a box of 50 rounds. The gun did not make enough noise to spook the critters. They would stand up to see what was making the noise.

Ganderite, may I respectfully ask what would you consider to be the optimal powder for this cartridge with 40 gr. bullets?

I had simar results in central Saskatchewan bush hunting bunnies. An English rook rifle in 360 #5.
Pretty much a .38 SPL using 148 fullwadcutter target handload with a 26 inch barrel.
Sounded like a bloop versus a rifle report. Dead soft lead bullets only. Of course the accuracy was dismal beyond forty yards. But I harvested ten bunnies in as many minutes. So there's no real complaint here.
