Any experienced deer hunter will tell you that a 410 using slugs is not an adequate deer caliber. You can kill deer with a 22 or a load of bird shot if you are close enough but no one kids themselves that these guns/loads are adquate . The game we hunt deserves better and adequate deer calibers start at the energy level and ammo types provided by the 243 Win and then with the largest bullets. We should have consideration for the game we persue and not what will work when everything goes right but when things go wrong, as they sometimes will, and do the best we can to achieve a clean and humane kill. You will sleep a lot better if you get a decent tool for the job at hand. Not just my opinion but the majority of hunters who engage in our marvelous sport and want our kids and grandkids to have the oppertunity to enjoy it feel the same.

OP is in Ontario, the gauge restriction is for 410 using shot. If using slugs he is okay but can not use shot for deer if using a 410.

Varmint: 1 : an animal considered a pest specifically : one classed as vermin and unprotected by game law.
Coyotes are the largest living thing I have used .410 slugs on. Despite modest ranges the slugs performed miserably. I would take almost anything over a .410 for game.

Energy is sufficient, deer are not very tough. It's the piss poor accuracy, SD and construction of the slug that is concerning.
Your stories re bang flopping deer np at 100 yards with 410 slugs are just that. Stories. With 272 foot pounds energy it probably wouldn’t make it near the centre of a white tail. You’d have better luck convincing me you’re catching those slugs with a ball glove at 100 yards than bang flopping deer. There’s so many better choices for 50 yards, let alone 100.
Sufficient to kill? Sure. Sufficient to kill quickly, and not cause the animal undue suffering? That I'm not so sure about.
IMO we owe it to the game we're hunting to kill them quickly. Picking a weak cartridge "because its legal" is about the worst way to go about things from my point of view.

A knew a few guys that plopped WT deer no problem with the 410 slugs.
However it was from a homemade bunker on private land. Wasn't no 100 yards though. More like 35-40 yards as the maximum range & most harvests well below this distance.

My shooting will be done from my tree stand for bow so any shooting will be under 40 yards so imo I'm quite fine with using a 410 slug. As the video shows a good placement shot and down they go ! Quite a few guys including women are using 410s in my area for deer knowing they only have 40 yard max shots in the type of woods we hunt in.

neighbor shot a doe with 410 slug in boiler room , asked us to help track,deer went 80 yards dead .seen deer get killed with 00 buck with only one pellet in lungs. always a track unless spined using buck shot,give deer time always after shot....adrenalin can even push a deer shot with 300 weatherby mag
