5.7x28......

Sorry, read that wrong, thought you'd gone with small pistol - don't do that. See if you can find the CCI Mil small rifle primers, thicker again.

I did find load data for pistol primers. What a crazy caliber to find data for. I am using CCI primers now. From what I have learned today, magnum primers are harder. I will load some of them and try again.

An update.... I suspected that the std primers may be soft. And I started to wonder about the very shallow firing pin Mark's on the primer.....So I loaded the same load, with magnum primers. Same muzzle flash. But very minor cratering on the primers. Very similar to the factory American Eagle that I was shooting. But, out of 10 rounds, I had 2 that didnt fire. I reloaded them in the gun, and they fired. It appears that this thing may need a stronger hammer spring. Another learning day...

You are using magnum rifle primers? It will be important to choose the right one. If it's a 450 you are using they are very thick at .025". I'd suggest a Federal Match (.0225) or a Winchester SR (.021"). Just need to find a balance, your gun is striker fired so you are dealing with a bit less of a smack than you need for a thick primer.

Yup. The recipe calls for magnums. How thick are CCI std small rifle? They cratered badly.
I also found a recipe for small pistol magnums as well. I have those in CCI as well. That was going to be my next test.

CCI 550 and 400 are the same primer. Thickness is .020" so you are gonna want to try something else. The 5.7 is a very high pressure cartridge but I think the Winchester SR will do fine. It's just thick enough to likely work well without presenting light strikes.
