What is that one part of your reloading routine that seems to never end –to which time comes to a grinding halt?

For me, the fool’s errand that I would gladly out-source to my eager-to-please 7 year son (if he weren’t a hyper-spaz) would be Primer Pocket Uniforming.

It doesn’t matter if I do it on my old RCBS prep-centre, or if I use a cordless screwdriver with an 21st Century Uniformer Attachment.

This process is:
  • a guaranteed hand/finger cramp after about 50 cases,
  • very time consuming,
  • noisy which drowns out my music or TV.

I used to have the same beef with Bullet Meplat Trimming … until I found my way out of that rabbit hole.

Cast your vote, air your grievances, and share your solutions to modern reloading problems.

450 cases done…. 550 cases to go !

I would think of reloading as just part of the circle.
I like shooting, I like reloading, the only bad part is the time I'm not doing that; like time spent driving to the range, or carrying all the gear to or from my vehicle after trips to the range.

Cheers to the positive way you look at these hobbies.
I like to think that a terrible day at the range/field/tournament is still better than an awesome day at the office.

That being said. I'm still glad that there are tasks (like Primer Pocket Machining) that only need to be done ONCE for the life of the brass... that is time better spent on other things (like shooting) LOL

The reloading would be fine if there was time and $$ to spare. Doing it is enjoyable, but the resources used are a drag. I shoot mostly Rimfire now. Much better for me; way more actual shooting.

I am not a fan of prepping rifle brass due to the volume I usually need to process. I have already worn out two cutters for my prep center.

I don’t like primer pocket reaming but I’d rather do it than throw out any usable brass. I tend to watch TV while I do that and switch between reaming and resizing to change things up a bit and keep from cramping up.

2 cutters !
Good Lord.... you must do some serious volume !

Got to somewhat agree with you... if I didn't have 3 way cutters and powered screwdriver, then this part would be the actual bottle neck in my production line!
More so because it has to done quite often too.

I hate cleaning the lube from sized cases the most. Not an option so i did not vote.

I had many options in mind to be on there own ... this was one of them.
But the CGN polls only allowed for a total of 10 options... so dropped it.

Agreed though... getting rid of that greasy residue left behind from something like Imperial Sizing Wax with an alcohol soaked rag is never a party.
I gave up on it a year ago and just reclean brass in he wet tumbler without the pins.. lots of soap and a chunk of cloth to soak up the wax in the drum.

I agree with you OP and here's another vote for the primer pocket uniforming.

I always wait until I have few hundred 1x on hand as well. then setup a single stage with sizing die and take care of the sizing, depriming, trim, chamfer, debur, primer pocket reaming, uniforming and cleaning all in one "assembly line process".

It does help to have some good music and drink to go with... and I guess the Lyman case prep Xpress I picked up last year helps a bit too. ;)

The only thing a dislike about reloading is, "not reloading". I enjoy every stage/aspect of it with zeal. Reloading is a hobby/interest and not a hardship, where it should be enjoyed immensely; similar to hunting.

About the only thing I don't like about reloading is picking tumbler media out of primer flash holes. Yeah, I know about wet tumbling, but I'm not going there.

The other thing that bothers me about reloading is no having enough time to do it!!

Of the options listed I would say case trimming. Only because I don’t like setting things up and am always paranoid something has changed so I’m always checking the lengths.

My two real complaints are not having time to reload and searching for components that aren’t priced through the roof
