308 to 6.5s? Convince me

Not sure if new boots is the answer.
But I just had to post this one....................

LOL, Now that's some funny $hit wright there

The .308 is truly the way to go for all-around hunting. The 6.5 has an advantage only at the ranges where most hunters shouldn't be ethically shooting at game.

As others have said, sticking with the 308 makes the most sense if you already have stuff for it. Either cartridge will do the job on a deer just fine at normal hunting distances. The 6.5CM has no advantages inside 300m except the slightly reduced recoil, and even that is not a big difference when you compare the 140's in a 6.5CM to 150's in a 308.

Generally speaking I like the 6.5CM round, but it doesn't seem worthwhile for what you want. I shoot both, but I stuck with the 308 for my hybrid rifle (mid range target and hunting, sort of a general purpose rifle) for it's versatility, cheaper brass, longer barrel life, and availability of cheap bulk plinking ammo.

I'd only consider a 6.5 as a new investment, not a re-investment. If you are already used to .308, no real reason to drop down unless you cant handle .308 recoil. At normal hunting ranges, no animal will know the difference. I am not biting the 6.5 hook, already vastly invested in .30 cals myself.
The 6.5 creed is rapidly becoming the bland 3006 of rifles. If everyone shoots it, its not special......

I appreciate both of them. But if I were to pick one, it would still be 308. It's simply more versatile. 308 has more knockdown power up close where I take the vast majority of shots.

If you're already set up for .260 then there's nothing to be gained in a 6.5CM.

.308 or .260 are the practical solutions.

Skip the 6.5CM for now if you are already set up for the .260. Or wait a bit, when the 6.8 Western becomes available, lots of the 6.5 crowd will be ditching their rigs to upgrade to the new thing.

You really can’t go wrong with either, the 6.5 creedmore isn’t a fad that will disappear, the versatility and selection of 6.5 projectiles is second to none, the ballistics and light recoil (just looking at the numbers, never shot one yet) are impressive. I personally have a .308 because I wanted a tried and true low recoil 30 cal. but everything a .308 will take I’d have no issue taking with a 6.5 CM. Bullet quality is more important and really has nullified the need for larger calibers for knock down power imho

I have a T3X 6.5CM and I still want a T3 in 308.
I like how common 30 cal bullets are. I have a bullet poster from Sierra on the wall. There are more 30 cal bullets on there than any other caliber. The 6.5 is great and fun but there's just something about a 30 cal....

Thanks for all your input, I am going to stick with the 308 idea for my new rifle. Reloading components that I have for 308 vastly outweigh my 6.5 stuff, might as well use it up! If H4350 or H4831SC wasn't unobtainable in my area I might sway to 6.5 again but looking at all the Varget and H4895 I have, it only makes sense to stay with that.
