I was tempted to buy an antique made in England SXS 12 G from a local gun dealer for $1,700. However, while doing research on the firearm and manufacturer, I googled the guns serial number. Low and behold the subject gun was sold at auction by HOLTS in 2017 for 225 GBP (About $349 CAD at time).

Now, have any of you bought and imported shotguns from Great Britain?

For unrestricted firearms, the procedure appears straight forward. Am I missing something?

I’d be interested in learning more. Often see unique 410s on sites there. Can someone educate on the importation. Thx in advance

I used to do it fairly regularly, both from Holt's & Bonham's and, back in the day, from a couple other English auction houses.. Despite what you saw, that is NOT a rapacious mark-up; he/she is probably not even getting their money back!

It is, or rather was, the last time I did it, L500 (500 Pounds Sterling) to import 1-3 firearms from the UK & I was able to pick up the firearms from Air Canada here in Winnipeg, so bonded freight-forwarding was not required. Add to that amount, the Auction company's buyer's premium, VAT (if you are unable to convince the auction house that they do not have to charge you VAT as it is being exported) the exporter fees, duty & taxes (I learned the hard way that MFN [Most-favoured Nation] status no longer applies to items purchased in the U.K. & you WILL have to pay duties on your purchase) and the prices climb quite rapidly.
