Hi, I have a Tuff-22 and was thinking about getting a 17 Mach 2 barrel for it.
Anybody with experience on whether the Tuff-22 action is capable of handling the 17 Mach2 ammo (I assume it will have slightly more recoil compared to 22 LR)?
Look forward to your comments.
Thanks

I'm not a firearm specialist, but I think the barrel is the key item here, followed by bolt and action. The Ruger action handles high velocity .22LR rounds and the Dlask is a big step up from the original action so I doubt it will have any trouble with .17MACH2.

Candocad.

isnt a mach2 just a necked down .22 lr and therefore the same energy and stress on receiver?

I was under the same thought as you until I received this information from my barrel supplier:

"Let me know how you want to proceed. note that with the 10/22 to 17M2 conversion, some actions can have real problems dealing with the extra recoil energy. I have no control over fixing that with your rifle so you may want to make sure you have the right parts to control that chamber".

The Dlask receiver is one of the strongest and most rigid available, springing the bolt properly shouldn't be too tough, definitely use a decent recoil buffer while you work out which springing is best. These guys (eabco.com/hornady17hm2.html) in the US used to sell kits for the conversion which included a heavier bolt handle, with a decent quality bolt and proper springing I'm not sure that's essential. They have discontinued the kit due to "a lack of good quality ammunition" but they seem to have good info.

I think you will have a hard time getting it to cycle correctly using 17hm2.

The Tuff receiver is extremely tough though so it would still be my first choice
