hey guys, i purchased a new sako 85 finnlight in 7mm rem mag a few months back. i have shot about 100 rounds though it.i have not been able to achieve the accuracy one would think such a rifle is capable of. i reload with accuracy in mind. i have tried different type of premium bullets, powders, primers, charge weight, and seating depth all with the same result. in a 3 shot group at 100 yards there will be 2 holes touching and 1 flyer. the flyer can be anywhere from .5 inch to 2 inch with no rhyme or reason to it. the examples in the pic is 175 gr eldx, 1 group with 65 gr of retumbo and the other is 175 eldx with 65 gr of rl 25. almost the same results. the "flyer" if we can call it that was the first shot in one group and the second shot in the other. i realize that the group is on the cusp of moa and would probably be considered acceptable to sakos standards.

so my question is, is this kinds of accuracy acceptable out of a new sako 85 finnlight? am i being too picky? i feel like there is a trend in every group, a flyer in every group. are there any suggestions to stop these flyers?
 
Are you allowing sufficient time for the barrel to cool a bit between shots?
Nevermind, I see it was the first and second shots in the groups...
 
What does it do with Sako factory ammo? That’s what Stoeger will ask, and what they’ll shoot in it when returned for warranty wrt accuracy guarantee.
 
My new finnlight in 3006 with 168gr Barnes ttsx Voretex factory ammo is one ragged hole at 100 yards, nosler trophy grade 165s were 1/2-3/4”
Sako 150gr was the worst by a long shot, barely shot 1”

Not a 85 but the S20 and pretty much the same CHF barrel and with the 308 Sako Gamehead 150gr I get Sub MOA. Happy with that and took advantage to the Sako ammo deal/rebate.

I have to add that it took me quite a few rounds to get use to the S20 stock configuration as I have been shooting a Remington 700 in a MDT chassis system.

Don't know how true this comment is but I was told that the Finnlight and Carbonlight requires a different shooting technique due to the rifle's light weight.

I have several 85s and they all shoot very well. The Stainless Synthetic 270Win is a real shooter as everything cloverleafs into a tight little group. My Bavarian Carbine 30-06 also cloverleafs anything from 150 to 190 grains. I had a Hunter in 300WSM that produced a 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch groups with shelf loads but I never ran a handled through it. The Finnlight 2 in 300WinMag does a 3/4 inch - I know this rifle can do better but my eyes are starting to deteriorate.

My Finnlight 270WSM and Bavarian 375H&H often do something similar to twofiveoh's rifle. The first two shots are often in the same hole, the third is a bit of a flyer being a half inch away at 2 O'clock. Still under an inch. I often wonder if I am doing something to change my body position while launching the third shot with each of these rifles.

no one carries sako ammo in town. i have been looking at some online.
i have tried 162 and 175 eldx, berger 175 elite hunter and 168 classic hunter, barnes 140 ttsx and sierra 165 gameking. they all give the same 1.5-2 moa result. ive put my nightforce on it, 3 or 4 different powders, new brass, neck size, full length size, i use a master hunter die set. im running out of options. im starting to look into the rifle itself and questioning if the recoil lug is engaging properly. maybe the stock is interfering with the action seating again the recoil lug. i dont know, im just shooting from the hip here.
 
Have you taken the action and barrel out of the stock to check for any oil or grease in and around the recoil lug. If there is, wipe it all off and check to see what the torque specs are when tightening it back up. That may help
 
Sako guarantees 1" for 5 shots with factory ammo. Personally I think they are delusional. Handloads void your warranty; so don't friggen tell them about that.

I've sent a couple back myself.

Take a look at the bird cage that they call bedding and you'll feel like smashing it over a rock or the ad writers back.

I see the flyer is vertical in both cases shown. Not sure if consistently vertical but suggest try using a bipod off bench if haven’t already done so. Might find it tightens right up. Just a thought.
