Ammo craze?

6 months ago they were saying the ammo shortage was coming.

lots of people here said "DON'T FEED INTO THIS BS, ITS ALL JUST SCARE TACTICS BY THE MAN. IF YOU BUY THEN YOU ARE JUST SHEEPLE" and some other derogatory terms....

Now that its actually here people are popping up with a shocked Pikachu face.
I haven't horded ammo but every time id normally buy 1 box i have been buying 2 or 3.

If you don't have some extra on hand until things stabilize its your own fault as this was well telegraphed
 
Once talks about ammo shortage started I bought another thousand rounds of 556 and 9mm. Even with around 3000 rounds of each caliber, I'm hesitant to go shoot as I don't know the next time I'll find some at decent prices.

Now I just bought a 12 gauge shotgun (first ever for me) and cannot find any bulk ammo for it..

Yep, You're right Skwerl :d I've got over 11K in .22 and just ordered some more SK Magazine. LGS has it on sale for $62/500 can. And I've got about 6K of other cals too :rolleyes: And it seems I'm still behind alot of folks on CGN, but I'm retired and have to watch where the $$ go . . . and go . . . :rolleyes:

It's not a conspiracy OR panic for Americans who've watched their cities burn in 2020. If your neighbourhood had stores looted and riots (and no LEO response) - how much ammo would you buy for the new handgun or rifle you finally convinced yourself to buy - a box, two, or a case or two?

A lot of American cities suffered from violence, rioting, looting in 2020. The suggestion that these events caused the ammo shortage -- whether panic-induced or not -- means it began only after the death of George Floyd in late May 2020.

It seems, however, that the demand for ammo began to increase before the race-related civil disturbances got underway. According to Jason Hornady, VP of Hornady, the growth in demand began by October 2019.

The growing fear, confusion, and division arising from the pandemic that began in March and progressively got worse cannot be overlooked. Add to the pandemic that 2020 was a divisive election year that began with impeachment and the ingredients are there for an ammo shortage without the race-related civil unrest.

It's not just about defensive use either. For many, the question arises as to how they'll feed their families should supply lines fail. Of course hunting, even small game, is unrealistic in terms of feeding hundreds of millions of Americans. But when did mere facts get in the way of people's thinking when it came to matters such as this? Especially for those new to owning guns? A significant percentage of the roughly 5,000,000 first time gun buyers of 2020 imagine themselves to be at least somewhat capable of hunting for deer or other game to feed their families. They'll be wanting to stock up on ammunition for target practice and some years of hunting, besides defensive use. Delusional or not, that's a contributing factor in what is likely to be a long term shortage.

Well you have me beat. bumped my .22 pile up to just over 7,000. The rest is sitting at 4,000 or so but I'm pretty much out of room and that's enough to get me by for 4-5 years.

45auto - Dr Deals in Moncton has 2 cans left @ $61.99 (12:45pm-Wed). You have to pay online and go to the store to pickup when he's there. NOT open to gen public, only by appt. He usually has an order ready in an hour or so if during "Normal" (old days) business hours -about 10am - 5pm. I use inet t-fer from my bank, CC he charges a bit more. Buy b4 it's gone ;-O Like I said, I have too much already but can't pass up a deal. I bought 3 cans ;-)

If only I lived back in Riverview NB.. :)

I'm OK for ammo, but have been stocking-up a bit when the opportunity presents itself. Seems like the bulk/lower cost 22 goes first...but that's of no interest to me anyway. Potential "Ammo shortages" wreak havoc with the way my mind works. (or doesn't work) Stress drives me to spend a little more/buy a little more than I'd like to...there is temporary relief from the stress. About a day later, the idea of enjoying it crosses my mind...then all of the "what if?" questions enter my mind.

"If I use it, will I be able to replace it?"
"Is it better to use/enjoy...or better to NOT shoot it and know I have it?"

Not saying any of that is rational. The exact thought process forced me out of the 17M2 scene....but I'm almost ready to take the plunge and get back into it. :)
 
grauhanen, different people will have very different answer.
- Late 90s, a friend asked me if I could go check a use hunting rifle he wanted to buy. A Browning Safari 30-06, when he talked to the owner, he said the gun had been shot " a heck of lot" but it was in real good shape, and the price was right...
- We got there, late 60's rifle. Original owner. Pencil barrel with open sight. "Vintage" scope on it. Other than some blue wear on the magazine floor plate and trigger guard... the rifle is beautiful.
- Got talking with the older gentleman selling it, trying to quantify what he met by "shot a "whole lot"... The guy just said "wait right here, and I'll show you..." and off he went to a back room.
- Came back about 10min later with a milk crate partially filled with empty ammo box, couldn't have been more than 15 boxes... and 2 and half box full (Of Browning branded 30-06)
- Every year, the guy went out to shoot a few sighters on paper to confirm the gun was still... and shot a few more shots standing, to confirm he was still OK. +1 shots for the deer that season

Needless to say, the friend bought the rifle (Otherwise I would have).

Seems like the new norm for bulk 223 is $700/1000. One vendor is saying that it will be $900 in a few months.

What is the outcome?

Keep shooting, shoot less, sell off firearms, less firearm sales

My buddy is considering a Tavor X95, he use to own one but sold it years back, my advice to him now is to spend that money on upgrading his computer
 
Not my first rodeo , and for most of you.... shouldn’t be your first. Most of us have lived through a couple of President Obummer terms.... :evil:

Many of us have lived through the Clinton terms, too. Few of us can remember the Carter years (that’s me...) :eek:
