Well, I haven't seen any threads on these rifles for like ever??
I remember when you could buy these off Firearms Intl of Montreal for 1700$ :)
I actually held & played with this bullpup while serving overseas but never fired the dawn thing.

PS: Please keep your France POS comments to yourself.

Great Rifle (No Im not French). There were some reliability issues mentioned in a Small Arms Review article. In the hands of the French Foreign Legion these probably serve just fine ....

Not sure what the medals would be for ...

My friend had one for 5 years in the Legion. He said it was a great gun. No complaints.

I recall Soldier of Fortune gave it a good review following Desert Storm.

I don't know why but I've always been drawn to them. I prefer the original model, without the space age hand/trigger guard. If they weren't prohib I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Only real issue that I've heard of is that they work best with their own ammo. Nato ball will work, but apparently it isn't optimal.

They are a good rifle but much less popular than AR's. Unfortunately here on this continent we don’t like any thing that doesn’t look like an AR and we can never digest the shape of a bullpup.

A bullpup is a bullpup - you either like it or hate it. I personally like the trigger guard like the type they used during the Chad campaign. It is definitely handier to have a shorter weapon especially for parachute forces.

The FAMAS maybe radical in the late 70's and early 80's, but it is no more than a heavy blow back system stuck into a bullpup configuration. It is optimized for the technology and fighting method of that era. Unlike the AR, they have very limited way to rig light and IR laser - the way they rig 40mm GL to the FAMAS is more an after thought too (Even the TAVOR looks like it is an afterthought, only the FN is designed ground up as a system) The FAMAS made some choices that made sense in the 80's but these features such as top charging handle (funny the Chinese copied it.....) and heavy blow back system, make sure it is going to be outclassed during the current transition period to a fully integrated system . As a rifle, it does its job. As the backbone of a system, IMHO it might be lacking.

The only one I ever handled was a ####-'n-click dewat that Proline shooters II in Calgary was storing for a movie. You could still strip the plastic cover off the top of the rifle and I was surprised at how much of the shape of the FAMAS is just hollow shell.

For those that are too new to the hobby to remember, it was a semi-suto FAMAS that was used as the sacrficial lamb in the court challenge against the prohibition of military rifles in Canada in 1992 ( or 1994? I guess I've been too long in the hobby to remember!). The FAMAS was prohibited without grandfathering by C-17, and an Edmonton collector kept his until after the hand-in date, then took it to display at a gun show. He called the cops and said come and seize it... they did and the court case was launched.

I had one in the early 90,s prior to our current laws purchased it from Ontario Sporting supplies when they were on keele from Century Arms price was $1700 with two 25 rd magazines bipod and bayonet.

It fired quite accurately was more accurate than the AUG put about 1100 rds through mine problem was it had a fluted chamber similar to the HK threw brass a distance as well the sights in the carry handle were always blocked from getting adequate light and the civilian version did not have the tritium night sights just the pop up with no element.

For what it was it was reliable and accurate it also had a small trigger guard that would fold for winter use ,the mags were straight line in design and held 25 rds were susceptible to bending the feed lips when dropped but I had bought 10 mags spare because they had a deal at the time when you got the rifle.

Really wanted the Sig 550 at the time but you could only get them through the importer and the barrel length I wanted was not available.

Boy how things change now you can get Swiss Arms rifles, carbines and CQB all superior in any case.
