M10x vs type 81 final results

They only build sh!t cus we ask for sh!t.

They can build fairly nice stuff if we give them budget to do so.

They can build anything they want, you are correct. And they did exactly what we asked for. I doubt a type 81 cost more to build than a polytech M14, the higher end user price is not the Chinese fault.

Today I had the shootout , m10x vs type 81.
I didn't bother with the full picture thing or bench rest accuracy but will give a detailed report.

Accuracy wise, both guns shot about the same, 75 yrds they were both hitting inside the black of a 6" target , the type 81 with factory sights and the m10x with magpul flip ups.
Mostly freehand , some semi supported, but definitely not from a bench or fully supported position
I had 3 types of ammo, Russian surplus, Romanian surplus and the white box norinco non corrosive.
The m10x would not shoot either of the surplus, would only function with the white box non corrosive.
But on that note it ran flawlessly with it. Not one single issue or jam to report, the type 81 ate everything.
They were the same accuracy wise, pretty broad statement i know but semi freehand at 75 yrds iron sights both would consistently shoot in the black., and after all the testing I decided to keep both.
I wouldn't trust either with my life or in a SHTF situation.
I have an ak drum mag and it worked well in both.
The m10x has better fit and finish but picky with ammo.
Type 81 feels cheap but reliable.
Only 1 mag out of 4 would do the bolt hold back on the 81.
And the mag release pin kept coming loose.
If I had to pick one it would be the m10x
With an 80 yr old man shooting ( my dad ) he felt the m10 was slightly heavier but not by much, he is very sensitive to weight, he wouldn't have been able to shoot the original long handguard dmr with the thicker barrel.
Where as my cousin that was there thought the type 81 was slightly heavier, they are that close. I didn't weigh them but I thought the m10 is just slightly heavier as well , but just ever so slightly
I fired approx 200rds out of each
The trigger on the type 81 i found to be perfect, not to heavy, not too light
The m10 trigger is slightly too light for the type of gun it is , but makes shooting fast easier

Thank you, nice report but the ammo feeding problems for the m10x just kills it for me. Fixing the mag pin on the type 81 is not a problem. Yes, the m10x is heavier than the type 81, another minus. Big minus for me.

Thanks for the report, I was happy to pay what I did for what I got in the first round of T81's.
The M10X price and ammo issues is a 'no way' for me for an item that is touted very highly but under performs in most peoples tests.

How did you do it? Stake it on the side it likes to walk out on perhaps?

Using the norinco non corrosive ammo i found the m10x to be an amazing gun.... but if you are looking for an AK wannabe that shoots surplus it isn't the gun for you.

If you are ok spending the $$ on better ammo the m10x is a better gun than the type 81, however the type 81 was flawless in performance with every ammo.
To add, the type 81 bolt hold open was far and few between, I would say only about 15% of the time and that's with 4 different mags.

The m10x never had any feeding or ejecting problems only light primer hits on surplus ammo. Basically on every or every second rd.

Both guns were very fun to shoot, the type 81 is definitely not an sks , as many think it is, very smooth to shoot, substantially better design than the sks.
Definitely shoots alot better than I thought it would when initially looking at the quality of it.
I really thought I would be selling one or the other but they are completely different guns , one is happy being dirty and shooting garbage ammo, the other is a little more exotic and fit and finish is much better but have to feed it what it likes.
I wish the m10x ate surplus, or I would sell the type 81. But as it is I need to keep both.

I really want to like both but the practical accuracy kills it for me too be honest, I’m not expecting a tack driver from either but it would be nice to see better groups than 4-5” at 100y for the price they both go for. Will have to stick with the ole sks, which with minor shimming shoots pretty good out to 200y.

From what I see they are both as accurate as an sks. If I put the effort in and put them on a bench properly. I honestly think they would do 2-3 moa
Doesn't say much about either for the price.
But again I'm happy with both and didn't buy either for sub moa.

Everybody certainly has their own expectations when it comes to these things. But i personally agree with Butcherbill. For a $1800 modern Hbar "DMR" in 7.62.x39, id expect close to 2moa and under with premium ammo. Maybe i wouldnt expect the lighter version reviewed here to necessarily pattern well. But then id at least expect its price to reflect that in comparison to the DMR version. But it doesnt apparently?

Excellent review!!
For me, number one quality in this type of a firearm should be reliability...everything else is distant second.
The fact that the Type81 is able to eat up any ammo and goes bang every time you pull the trigger trumps any of it's shortcomings.

I’d like to see someone shoot both off the bench and bags actually, with a variety of better quality ammo.

Like I said, I really want to like them on more than the way they look. I like the x39 cartridge and I like the combloc style of semi auto rifles, I’d like to be able to hunt with one at the end of the day and for that I expect a certain level of accuracy. I’ve got my one sks down to 3”-3.25” 5 shot groups with bulk Norc ammo at 100y and about 4”-4.25” at 200y with irons, good enough for me to hit a deer in the vitals locally. With some PPU sp or SST’s out to 100y I’d be more than confident of an ethical kill.

I know it’s not meant to be a hunting rifle but that’s part of the fun of hunting with non traditional platforms for me.

We have a couple sks's
We shoot them the same way we shot the type 81 and m10... I would say both of these are the same if not more accurate than an sks. With the sks we always have some holes in the white around the target, all the holes with these 2 were in the black.

My m10x has bolt hold open on last shot. And no type 81 mags do not work in the m10 I tried. But the drum i have works in both. shame they went proprietary.
