Friend of mine bought a Type 54 from Bullseye North.

Pistol was described as "unissued" and in "excellent condition".

I feel bad as i am the one who told him to buy it.

Yes he contacted the seller. They want him to ship it back, they don't want to exchange the barrel only.

Here is the barrel for your viewing pleasure.

Is this common/normal ?

They say they can't exchange the barrel because they "are mechanically matched" to pistols which they come with.

Meh............................ no comments on that.

Did you shoot it? Does it shoot OK? These are $200 chinesium milsurp pistols. I would think one would adjust their expectations accordingly.

No idea how it shoots i'll ask him.

As for expectations its relative to what was advertised: "unissued" and in "excellent condition".

It was clearly fired with corrosive service ammunition and not cleaned properly. Asking for a replacement barrel is ridiculous. The barrels are usually numbers matched to the rest of the pistol and it's not like they're going to have spares. If the retailer is happy to exchange the entire gun for a new one then what exactly is the problem here?

There is no markings on the barrel. Absolutely none.

No problem here except they sent a POS. And i feel bad for him as i told him to buy it .

Also, sharing greats pictures !

Better to get the whole gun replaced, I got one from Marstar a year ago, mint condition! $199.99, it was military as the blueing was a dark black/blue and muted not shiney. Fun guns for the money!

Thats a cheap mill surplus gun. The barrel looks fine. I bet it shoot just fine as well. There s a reason they are so cheap. Might as well spend some money on something new.

They are new, mine is pristine!
It is either Cosmo dried on or it got shot somewhere along the way and not cleaned, spray some cleaning oil down the barrel and wait 10 minutes push a couple patches/ cleaned/ whatever down the bore rinse and repeat! Don't shoot it like that it looks more like buildup than rust but could be the shading on the pic! Worth a try! Mine wasn't that bad when I got it but certainly had dried crap that cleaned right out and my barrel is new!

Did your friend clean it well before those pics were taken, or is that how the barrel looked out of the box? It could just be old dried up cosmoline, hard to tell in the pics.

Just asked him.

Cleaned thoroughly with a brass brush and solvents.

You are buying a very cheap surplus gun that might be 30-40 years + old.
It will not look like a NIB modern gun.

They offer to change it - do it - end of the story.
If you want to play in the Mils Surp game, you are better to get used to not so perfect gun.
I don’t even know why you started that tread - it is not your gun and on top of it -London offered to exchange it.

Next time you give advise - tell your friend to buy a quality gun..

Yeah he'll exchange it.

There is a difference between a POS gun and a not so perfect gun.

Also was advertised as "excellent condition".

I posted because people like pictures. I like pictures.

This is what the M54 looks like! He just got a bad one, first I have heard!
Lots of folk don't like them, probably never had one! Great collector item, bit of History, fires a 85gr pill at 1400-1550fps, can penetrate level 3a body armour ( some brands of ammo will not) as accurate as they needed it! ( country of manufacture makes a difference from what I hear and of course ammo), then again people take a military handgun designed in the 30's with 70 year old ammo and think it should punch a 5 shot ragged hole!
They said they would exchange it, can't get any better than that for follow up service!

Bullseye is normally good to deal with so take them up on their offer & get a different gun.

As for the posters who make inane comments like "it's a mil-surp, what do you expect?" (how about an unfired, excellent condition gun as advertised?), "buy a quality gun" (because everyone has the money to do that), "adjust your expectations" (on an unfired, excellent condition gun what would your expectations be?) or my favourite, "the barrel looks fine" (I guess maybe to Stevie Wonder). There is a reason this site has an "Ignore" button.
