I found these on the floor at the rifle range, looks like someone dumped an entire unfired cylinder of them. It looks like 38 special (it's about the same size as 9mm), but I'm not a revolver guy.
What is this stuff?

I like how they sting just enough to remind you that you ####ed up.

....but seriously....treat them as you would a live round with lead, instead of paint. These can seriously injure someone if they are not used properly and with the right equipment.

And the special barrel is to avoid accidentally chambering true live ammo and allow semi autos to cycle correctly right?

Yup.

Yup.

Sling .... I had a welt and skin missing when I was shot in the ass by frozen 9mm Sim. I had that welt for 5 months after... It did not sling, It ####ing hurt.....

Thats only if they hit you in a unprotected area, Like if you do entry drills proper most Op For will aim for the chest and with vest on, tac vest etc, you wont know that you were hit, being you cannot feel it.

I've never done drills with frozen pellets:D:D Now I'll make sure I never do....and yes a hit on an unprotected area is much worse. The sting I was referring too was on clothing (arms, legs, ass, etc).

X2. As you found them on a range, you do not know if they have expired or if something else has happenned with them preventing them from being used for person to person training.
I would not fire them at anyone.

I am not going to shoot people with them, for several reasons:
1) I do not have a gun that can fire them.
2) I don't point real guns at people (loaded or otherwise) unless I have a very, very, very good reason, and "I wanna try a simmunition I found on the floor" is not a good reason.
3) I don't know all the safety protocols involved with force-on-force training to prevent a live round from sneaking in. Many people have died from this type of accident and I don't want to add more to the list. I wouldn't fire a gun without knowing ACTS and PROVE, so I won't do force-on-force without knowing the rules for that.
4) From some of the other people's posts, it sounds like getting shot with simmunition is really unpleasant. I may have trouble finding a volunteer. ;)
5) your reason

The .38spl simunition should be just propelled by the primer. The rounds ment for for auto loaders have a small propelent charge to operate the action.

6) My momma say you can shoot your eye out with one a those...:D
