A Sako AV Fiberclass

A word or warning to the harder kicking fiberclass owners. The stocks are prone to splitting as the filling in them looks like recycled dry wall dust.I have repaired a lot of them that are split. I recommend pillar bedding them and gouging out the cheesie filler and replacing it with long strand kitty hair or dura glass. That is why the action screws work loose.Otherwise one of the nicest of Sakos offerings .

Thanks for the advice, Gary. I'll take a closer look at my Fiberclass. It hasn't had pillars installed as the original steel shims are still in place.

That’s a rare one stickhunter. Cool shorter barreled 300 win mag with iron sights! A stalking rifle perhaps?

It's been the rifle that I take for black bear hunting, and the scope (a VXR 1-4) is mounted on Leupold QR bases, so I can remove it and still use the sights. I've been thinking about ways to make a peep sight that would work in the QR bases --- I figure that would make a very nice set up, but I quite like the factory Sako iron sights as well, it's just that my eyesight is not the best.

The only thing missing on the rifle is the front sight hood. I thought I found one when I purchased a spare Sako 338WM barrel with a hooded front sight, but it looks like Sako has played around with the width of the hood tab/ramp groove over the years and it wouldn't fit my barrel.
