Looking for different ways to fire form brass that you have tried. I am wanting to form 218 mashburn from 218 bee brass and other small caliber brass.

Expand the neck to .243 or .257 and then size the neck only back down to .224 and load and shoot things. Doesn't it actually head space on the rim? If it does fire loaded 218 bee in your mashburn and when you eject it will be mashburn brass.

I form lots of brass into different things and have never wasted my time with wadding or cream of wheat. I just load to spec and shoot as I love to shoot. Shooting cream of wheat around your basement doesn't make you a better shot or help with trigger control. I built a 6mm-06 and during fire forming I shot gophers and rocks and tannerite and.....Once I was done I had formed brass and was maybe better at shooting.

I don’t bother with any fillers. Reduce load with the bullet seated against the rifling. The only problem was if the load didn’t create enough pressure. Just repeat with a slightly higher pressure load. Any case forming operation is a learning experience so write down what you do so you will know next time.

I am doing this on a very old kimber of Oregon model 82 and it only has one locking lug at the rear of the bolt and scared to blow up the bolt just trying to find a safe way for this old gun

In that case, if the powder will fit, just use the starting load to fireform.

How would you blow it up firing normal 218 bee loads? Put a 218 bee cartridge in the chamber close the bolt aim fire and youll have 218 mashburn bee brass. Couldn't be easier. Like firing 280 remington in a 280AI or 375 h&h in a 375 weatherby. If youre worried the necks will split just firing 218 bee do it the first way I suggested.

billdick is right, just start with your 218 Bee load and all will be well. I don't think you can get enough Lil Gun into the case to cause any issues.
