Flintlocks : what and where ?

Regarding Pedersoli, it seems like their quality control has been kind of a hit/miss. There is a discussion regarding that right now on another forum. Would be nice if you could see some detailed photos before hand if one was considering a Pedersoli so there are no unpleasant surprises. Most complaints are of poor fit and finish and inletting which doesn't effect function as long as you can stand looking at it.
 
Well my no longer made in .36 caliber Pedersoli Frontier Flintlock has a perfect fit and and finish. It goes bang every shot and if it misfires the problem always happened to be made by myself. It is not my first Pedersoli gun. BTW there was this same rifle for sale two weeks ago on the Black Powder exchange thread.

Yah my Pedersoli Brown Bess is like that, the inletting is far worse then my cheaper Traditions rifle. However, the Pedersoli is superior in every other regard. Higher quality construction and build materials.

Just so happens that the topic of the main gun on the other forum regarding quality control is a Brown Bess that a fellow just received. He showed pics of it. The fit and finish is terrible to the point there is obvious filler in a couple of holes that looks like a kid did in preschool class. Should never have went out Pedersoli's door. But apparently the gun has been sent back this morning. I have a Pedersoli Whitworth and Kodiak that are fine. I also have a Tryon that some of the inletting was not done very well. Just saying to the OP that if you decide on Pedersoli, it would be nice if you saw some clear pics of the gun being sent. Providing you could get a vendor to do that.

Sounds embarrassing for Pedersoli, my Brown Bess just had little voids here and there around the brass inserts. Nothing they tried to patch up with wood filler thankfully. Not impressive considering its a $1000+ gun, but at the same time I wondered if maybe they did that on purpose to resemble the fitment real Bess's would've had in the day :confused:

Here is some pics of a $900 Pedersoli Traditional Hawken rifle that I returned because this is the way it came out of the box ! now im not sure if it left Pedersolis factory like this, OR if it got this way sitting around in Dixie Gunworks warehouse....

It couldve been lightly used. The scared Frizzen possibly indicates such. It mainly looked like it spent months hanging on a wall in a humid garden shed lol Dixie Gunworks told me that they sometimes look like that ?! but offered me a full refund or exchange with shipping covered nonetheless. I still like Dixie, and will continue to order from them.
 
I just ordered some black powder stuff from them yesterday and, for my birthday gift from me to me, a Traditions Mini Napoleon III Canon! :)
